📢ANNOUNCEMENT📢
We began CAN Remain to try and encourage @LauraSmithMP to back a Second Referendum. From her General Election campaign, we now believe that – in line with the Labour manifesto – she does.

I do wish I hadn't opened this pile of #BorisBullshit and I hope the people of #Crewe and #Nantwich don't fall for it. Let's be clear, the @Conservatives DON'T CARE for us.
Idk why BBC North West deleted this video where Priti Patel insists you can’t blame the government for growing poverty because it’s actually the fault of local councils (whose funding the government cut).
Perhaps we should make sure people see it.
@MC_Brussels Her campaign – as far as we're aware – hasn't mentioned Brexit. It's not on her leaflet, and there's nothing on Facebook, so don't expect a Tweet.
But, yes. Given she backed a public vote before, then twice voted against one, trust is something we'll each have to judge.
It's official! The new #LabourManifesto states...
"A Labour government will secure a sensible deal... [and] put that deal to a public vote alongside the option to remain."
🇪🇺❤️👍
The notion that any Brexit deal can be better for the people Labour is supposed to represent than remaining in the EU is, of course, complete nonsense.
Anyone else been phone canvassed by the CLP yet…?
@rx4ray @rPettitt1 @GreatRedDragon0 @LauraSmithMP Danny's right – it's good to see.
Laura's position seemed to be pragmatic, but that's hardened – as two recent @M_Star_Online articles attest, and her association with Lexit campaigns.
However, she hasn't mentioned Brexit in her campaign – not seeing it as a defining issue now.
Thank you @jessphillips for making the trip to #Crewe and helping us to get @LauraSmithMP re-elected and to elect a Labour government that will bring #RealChange 🌹
But there was no firm commitment from the Home Sec to strengthen the law on sprinklers after the Beechmere fire in Crewe in August. Jeremy Corbyn told me they’ll bring in new laws requiring them in care buildings. Priti Patel said there’s a review ongoing and it’s not her dept.
New video by @mdouganlpool on the Johnson WA which Laura Smith voted for a month ago, describing it as almost entirely identical to the "car crash" May Deal which she rejected three times and described "as a threat to our jobs and living standards".
@toootiepie Advocates of tactical voting would have us support a pro-Leave MP who has consistently been wrong on Brexit, rejecting both her constituents' scrutiny and party policy.
It's a compelling argument – one we've been struggling to accept for a while.
THREAD
Our second email to Laura on 16 June also simply asked "Why?", but of course it got no response.
Her reasons for changing from campaigning for Remain to voting with Boris Johnson are therefore somewhat opaque, but they can be gleaned from a few places...

This is #MyPledgeForPR. If elected, I will do everything I can to bring in Proportional Representation @MakeVotesMatter https://t.co/Cz1mFOEfWP https://t.co/8uzRGqREGA
How very sad. The carer who has swallowed the Leave lies about immigration and believes that leaving the EU will save the NHS and improve his life. Surely @LauraSmithMP should have been honest with her constituents. By not countering the lies she will probably let the Tories in.
Gov response to producing an economic impact assessment on new Brexit deal: they haven't even started & probably won't ever do one
"There is no 'economic impact assessment’ based upon the Withdrawal Agreement, nor is there a date for an ‘economic impact assessment to take place"
@jessphillips Hi Jess. We are all big fans of yours, and hugely grateful for your support of a People's Vote. ❤️
Do you have a message for Remainers here in Crewe & Nantwich – perhaps one we could hear in person?
Enjoy your trip. Thanks very much. 👍
