There's a lot of work to be done and traps to avoid by the new government as commodification of nature in the guise of financial tools being presented as innovative methods to tackle the economic crisis.
#Colombo air quality today marks 'unhealthy" for sensitive types. PM concentration in air is. 7.9 x higher than the recommended levels by the WHO as #Delhi marks 64.4 x PM concentration with "hazardous" levels. Countries must be held accountable for transboundary emissions.
The carbon market allows wealthy countries and corporations to buy carbon credits to offset their emissions, instead of reducing pollution themselves. These credits are often sourced from environmental projects in developing countries.
This allows the wealthy to avoid meaningful changes to reduce emissions, leaving developing nations to deal with consequences. By relying on carbon markets, the world neglects the systemic changes needed to genuinely reduce global emissions and promote environmental justice. 4/

It is nonsensical to talk about "Economics of Restoration" while considering the cost of environmental destruction as negative externalities. Economics of restoration is probably good for business, but definitely not for people at this level.
