Loosely inspired by Benjamin Kreb Nachfolder’s Phoenix Grotesk, Cantrell incorporates a humanist tilt that adds nuance and softness to balance its austerity yet maintains its dynamic energy. It breathes life into any project and lends air to all type artisans.

The type specimen’s paper tear collage has subtle nods to newspapers of old and feature subtle nods to a 1930s boxing match between American Joe Louis and German Max Schemling as an homage to both my time growing up in Germany and Ben’s Phoenix specimen, as well as my American roots and the american grotesks that have inspired my career.
