We’re monitoring a shooting at Brown University, which comes on the second day of final exams. Students, faculty, and staff are living in fear tonight as yet another act of gun violence shakes our communities.
We stand with the Brown community in horror, holding them in our hearts tonight as we wait for more information. Gun violence is a crisis, and every one of these moments is preventable.
Reports indicate multiple people have been shot at Brown University.
Only in America do we live in fear of being shot & killed in our schools, places of worship, grocery stores...
We deserve better.
My thoughts are with the victims & their loved ones.

School should not sound like gunfire.
Today, students at Brown University were forced into a reality no one should ever have to prepare for. Gun violence has become a constant threat in American education, from elementary schools to college campuses, because our so-called leaders refuse to act.
This is not inevitable. It is the result of policy choices that continue to put lives at risk.
My heart goes out to the Brown University community who are sheltering in place, incl. my dear friend Mia Tretta, who balances being a Brown student & gun violence prevention advocate

Like the majority of Americans, former Republican Sen. @JeffFlake and I support protecting the rights of law-abiding gun owners.
But the stakes are too high to rely solely on the honor system—we need commonsense laws to keep guns out of dangerous hands.

After passing the OBBBA, Congress is now considering a budget proposal from the Trump administration that reduces the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF)’s funding by 29%, making communities less safe. @NickWilsonB explains: https://t.co/KsI2E1uEXV
LAST NIGHT: Landmarks, buildings, and billboards across the country went orange on National Gun Violence Awareness Day to honor the countless Americans whose lives have been stolen or forever changed by our nation’s preventable gun violence crisis. 🧡
Today, SCOTUS ruled that Mexico’s lawsuit aimed at holding U.S. gun manufacturers accountable for fueling gun violence in Mexico is not sufficient to overcome the unique protections from civil liability that Congress granted the firearm industry. My thoughts...
Violence is never the way to peace. My heart goes out to the families affected by the horrific attack on Pearl Street Mall, as well as to Jewish Americans across the country who are afraid in the wake of these hateful attacks. Antisemitism has no place in this country. Period.
Hadiya Pendleton should be turning 28 today—but her life was cut short when she was fatally shot in a park.
I joined Hadiya’s parents and survivors in a balloon release to honor all the lives stolen by gun violence. We remember Hadiya’s life & dedicate ourselves to a safer future.
Gun Violence Awareness Month is about taking action, saving lives, and standing up for what’s right.
As the Trump admin continues to roll back lifesaving progress, I’m here to remind you that we will never give up. We will always keep fighting for the safer future we deserve.
I wrote about how DOJ reducing accountability for rogue gun dealers makes us all less safe is a gift to a gun industry that does not want any regulations or enforcement so that it can profit from the diversion of guns to the underground market https://t.co/VM4gsktiam
In response to Trump's EO, ATF released an update to a Biden-era policy where ATF revoked gun dealer licenses after serious & willful violations, incl. selling to prohibited purchasers.
DOJ ended the policy & ATF is now encouraging dealers who had licenses revoked to reapply
Trump admin claims to be focused on gangs & smuggling, but its actions don't match the rhetoric.
Sen. Van Hollen & @neeratanden explain why it's a mistake to dismantle the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces, a Reagan-era unit that helped capture "El Chapo."
Can you take five minutes today to call your representatives in DC and tell them that community violence intervention programs need sustainable funding for generational work and the recent cuts by the Trump administration must be restored? #ProtectCVI#CVIDayOfAction
