'As soon as the Americans get their hands on football they start making up their own rules.'
Chief US Correspondent @BenLeo reacts as US President Donald Trump admits he intervened to have a red card against the US team's top goalscorer lifted.
@ajambrosino@saboorow Whenever I click “too much” on the screen (OCD selecting text to ask AI), it does something similar. Seems to hang and then reload and then come back.
Been happening to me these past few days and made me notice my OCDism…
My son was accused of this by his Sociology professor; the professor said my son used AI to formulate his answer, so his score was 0. And when my son protested and said he wrote every word himself, the professor refused to see any other work, or talk to him about it
My son was LIVID. "WHY would I let a machine do my thinking for me when I don't even let other PEOPLE do my thinking for me??!!"
He took it to the Dean of Students, who did nothing and didn't even respond. He took it to the faculty advisor who assured him that he knew my son didn't cheat.
Anyway, my son still got an A in that class, and now hates Sociology with a passion. So... Win-win?
Ukrainian soldier records what he thinks will be his final video as his unit is surrounded by Russian forces.
Look at the eyes of the soldier, you will feel this video.
Everyone is obsessed with AI making a 10x engineer a 1000x engineer.
The recent reductions at CloudFlare and Click have me me realize the plot is equally about the inverse: AI amplifies the *negative* impacts of poor performers.
If a person with poor taste, who makes mediocore judgement calls, and doesn't properly build things customers love is able to produce 10x more work - does a company want that?
Hell no! Productivity isn't just about as many people as possible tokenmaxxing. AI is a double edged sword, especially when it's used to produce net new work.
If you give a bad artist a pen that can draw 100x as fast, you're going to pile up with a lot of junky artwork very quickly.
And since it happens so quickly leaders are now able to see quickly who is Picasso and who is not and adjust accordingly.
Apple has removed Lebanese village names in Southern Lebanon.
As Israel invades, they are already setting the state to justify occupation.
I’ve never seen something like this.
Thanks, Tariq. Could Anthropic make these classifiers and account-risk signals more transparent and predictable? I’ve already had two warnings, and the uncertainty is so high that I’m now afraid of losing my account without knowing what actually triggers it. That changes user behavior in a really damaging way. A clearer warning system, probation period, or path back to trust would help a lot.
When America was attacked on 9/11, NATO members stood with us. In fact, more than 1,000 non-U.S. NATO service members paid the ultimate price in Afghanistan, never returning home to their families.
When President Biden announced his decision to withdraw all U.S. forces on April 14, 2021, more than 6,000 non-U.S. NATO troops were still serving in Afghanistan, including approximately 1,300 from Germany. That total number of non-U.S. NATO service members was roughly double the number of American service members serving in Afghanistan in April that year.
And some NATO allies remained to the last possible moment. Amid the chaos of the evacuation at Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport, Norwegians ran the field hospital used to treat the 13 Americans killed in a suicide bombing on August 26.
As late as August 17 that year, nearly 800 NATO civilian personnel remained in Afghanistan for essential tasks, including air traffic control, logistics, communications, and security during the withdrawal of U.S. forces. They stood with us to the end.
Some talk big. Some put their lives on the line to honor their commitments. That is what many of our European allies did. They were true friends and allies to us.
The way we are treating them now is shameful and self-defeating.

‼️ This is treason in plain sight. The Hungarian foreign minister has betrayed his country, the EU, and its partners, as well as the values on which the EU is built. In any democratic country, he would already be in prison! Crazy…
