Sept. 28-Oct. 4 is World frontotemporal degeneration Awareness Week. When Senate Bill 1047 becomes law in California, data collection for FTD represents far more than just policy. It's a lifeline in our fight to improve the lives of families living with this devastating disease.
#TeamAshby celebrated the grand reopening of Babcock Park on this beautiful afternoon! We joined Councilmember Roger Dickinson, community partners, and local families to celebrate this restoration of green space and a place for youth and families to play and connect.
Governor Newsom has signed #RCRC-sponsored #SB299, authored by @Cabaldon4CA, exempting residential day care centers from CEQA, protecting providers from costly litigation, and expanding access to early childhood care across rural California.
I believe deeply that Sacramento’s best days are ahead of us. But until we really work together as a region on our toughest and most persistent issues we cannot expect to see the results that this community so deeply deserves.
Homelessness and lack of appropriate housing with services continue to demand our attention in Sacramento.
I wrote SB802 to bring our local leaders together - to see through an effort some 20 years in the making.
For two decades Sacramento has tried and failed to establish a Joint Powers Authority to collaboratively tackle homelessness.
SB802 makes that happen - finally.
We are so much effective when we work together.
Thank you @CAgovernor for signing this bill into law.

Today we honor American prisoners of war and remember the service members who remain missing in action. We are grateful for their service and sacrifice, and we stand with the families still waiting for answers.

Latino Heritage Month is an opportunity to celebrate the generations of Latino Californians whose culture, leadership, entrepreneurship, and service have helped shape our communities. Here in Sacramento and across California, that impact is part of who we are.

Earlier this year Zac and I took our youngest to NY. We visited the 9/11 Memorial, read the names, listened to the water fall… and told her our memories of that day and how it felt to live through such a brutal attack on our country.
Zac and I were a fairly new long distance couple then. He was finishing his last year at the University of Oregon and I was halfway through law school in California. Our relationship was only a few months old.
That day played a big role in our trajectory. Like many others across the United States we suddenly felt the shortness of life. An urgency manifested in us both. Three months later we were engaged and the next September we were married.
I have no doubt that 9/11 expedited our timeline.
It was a somber and reverent day. One that made it very clear we should also pursue our hearts desires without delay.
May we never forget the losses and the lessons of September 11, 2001. May we pass them on to the next generation and forever remember not only the tragedy but the beauty that came from so many acts of courage and love in the wake of chaos and destruction.
