@ADannehy@DMRussini I liked Robertโs point about how Poles chose team-building over maximizing draft capital. In the end, the impact of this approach is dwarfed by whether or not they get the first pick right and set up (probably) Caleb for success.
@andybudd As their manager, privately remind them your goal is to help them succeed. Ask what support they need from you to succeed.
Also be clear with stakeholders that the result was not acceptable. We failed to deliver and we need to own that. Explain what is changing and why.

2. PM should put padding on any estimate from an IC.
3. Next time, align on a clear goal, constraints, and a timeline for feedback before you start.
Hello! I have some professional news. Yesterday was my last day at Etsy. Thatโs still a little weird to me, but I am _pumped_ to have a couple weeks to chill. Relatedly, I am accepting movie, donut, and restaurant recommendations (in Denver, preferably).
Eventually, I want to share more about my decision to move on, but for now Iโll say that I grew a lot as an engineer and person during my time at Etsy. There are so many fantastic people who made the days fun and helped me navigate a large engineering org for the first time.
After a short break, Iโll be joining Fastly at the end of the month as a staff engineer. I am positively CHUFFED to be given this opportunity. Also, Iโll get to work alongside a small, but powerful, contingent of Six Apart alumni. What a killer group of humans, amirite?
