All day I've had a terribly upset stomach, no clue why
I've also been very stressed all day so just now I decided to treat myself got a glass of choccy milk
Only after consuming half already do I remember choccy milk hates my guts and I will infact be suffering for my hubris
THIS is honestly the best way to understand Bryan’s entire story.
People keep asking why the protagonist doesn’t get the usual Resident Evil protagonist treatment why he gets infected so early, why there’s no miraculous cure at the end, why his story ends with him becoming the very thing he spent the movie running from.
But what if that’s literally the point?
Bryan doesn’t feel written like Leon or Claire. He feels like the guy whose story you would discover halfway through playing a Resident Evil game. You find a damaged recording in some abandoned room, press play, and suddenly you’re listening to an ordinary person explain how everything went wrong.
You never meet them.
You never save them.
You only get their final moments.
And Bryan’s entire story fits that structure perfectly. He gets infected early, keeps moving because he has something he needs to deliver, records a message for the woman he loves, and spends the rest of the movie desperately trying to hold onto himself while his body is slowly becoming something else.
The insane part is that we’re basically watching the document instead of finding it.
That voice recording feels especially important because it gives Bryan a life outside the outbreak. He wasn’t just “the courier.” He had a girlfriend. He was going to become a father. He had plans. He had a life waiting for him outside Raccoon City.
And then Raccoon City turned him into another piece of evidence.
That’s why I don’t think Bryan surviving would necessarily make his story better. His tragedy is that he was never supposed to become the hero who defeats the outbreak.
He was the story you find after the hero has already moved on.
Leon gets to leave Raccoon City and become a legend.
Bryan becomes the recording Leon finds.
And honestly, that might be one of the most Resident Evil things this movie could’ve done.
Ive never considered that her hair still having a mind of it's own makes it sometimes act on it's own whim and sometimes against her thats really cool actually
what’s wild about this is our queer elders fought so hard for queerness to be an identity NOT an action bc if it’s what you do, you can stop doing it > if you can’t stop doing it, it’s a compulsion > a compulsion is a mental illness & is therefore treatable > conversion therapy
if i crawl into bed with you and start cuddling all you need to do is cuddle back. it helps me sleep, don't ask how i got in your house it ruins the moment
“he’s talking to her like a child” have you considered some of us grew up getting screamed at for minor mistakes? as someone with childhood trauma from explosive anger, if i make a mistake, i need that exact level of gentleness to keep from freezing
the qualities that make him a good dad are ultimately what ends up being his doom 😭 like yeah it’s a bitter ending but it makes sense the man was overly concerned about what he originally thought was gonna be some kid’s heart
