Greek Coast Guard Kills 15 in What Appears To Be A Failed Pushback Attempt
The Greek Coast Guard has now released its “official” account of the deadly collision off Chios. As expected, the authorities deny all responsibility and place the blame squarely on the people they killed — unarmed men, women, and children.
This is not new. It is a well-worn script.
Whenever people are killed at sea, the Greek Coast Guard claims innocence. Without exception, the victims are blamed. Without exception, any wrongdoing by the authorities is denied. Today’s statement follows this blueprint word for word.
We have seen it before. The Pylos shipwreck was initially blamed on the people onboard — until it became undeniable that the Greek Coast Guard had been towing the vessel. Even then, accountability never followed.
Once again, Greek media largely reproduces the Coast Guard’s narrative without scrutiny. No serious effort appears to be made to investigate, to question inconsistencies, or to speak to survivors. The official version is accepted as truth — despite a long record of false, misleading, and incomplete statements in cases involving deaths at sea.
Survivors are systematically silenced. They are detained, isolated, denied access to journalists, and stripped of their phones — ensuring that no photos, videos, or testimonies can contradict the authorities’ claims. If there was no wrongdoing, there would be no need for secrecy. The scale of this information control speaks for itself.
Let’s be clear about the facts.
This incident took place deep inside Greek territorial waters. A collision occurred with such force that at least 15 people were killed. The Coast Guard claims it attempted to stop an overcrowded boat at high speed before it reached land. This decision alone is reckless and indefensible.
Why intercept at sea, under dangerous conditions, instead of allowing a safe disembarkation and arresting any suspected smugglers on land? The answer is obvious: because this was not about law enforcement — it was about preventing arrival.
The claim that a small, overcrowded boat would intentionally ram a much larger Coast Guard vessel is absurd. It defies basic logic. No one risks certain death to achieve nothing. This explanation exists solely to deflect responsibility.
The Coast Guard has released photos of alleged damage to its vessel. The damage is minimal — a small dent near the front, close to the waterline. This raises serious questions about the maneuvers used and the position of the Coast Guard vessel at the moment of impact. These are questions the authorities are clearly not interested in answering.
We have repeatedly documented the Greek Coast Guard engaging in dangerous, aggressive maneuvers at sea, with complete disregard for the lives of those onboard intercepted boats. There is no reason — none — to believe this incident was handled differently.
Fifteen people are dead.
This was not an “accident”. It was the predictable outcome of a violent border regime that prioritises deterrence over human life and operates with total impunity.
This case demands an immediate, independent international investigation. Those responsible must be identified and held accountable. Greece has shown, time and again, that it is neither willing nor capable of investigating itself.
Until that happens, every denial, every official statement, and every attempt to shift blame should be treated for what it is: a cover-up.
People were killed.
The truth is being buried.
And silence makes everyone complicit.
Fatal Incident Off Chios – 15 Dead 25 injured
On the evening of Tuesday, 3 February 2026, a serious and fatal incident occurred at sea off the Greek island of Chios, in the sea area of Myrsinidi, involving a patrol vessel of the Hellenic Coast Guard and a speedboat carrying people on the move.
According to updated information from Greek media and official sources, the speedboat was approaching the coast of Chios from the Turkish side when it was intercepted in an attempt to prevent it from reaching land. During the operation, a collision occurred between the Coast Guard vessel and the speedboat. Several media outlets report that the incident followed a high-speed pursuit, and there are also reports of a possible exchange of gunfire, though these claims remain disputed and unconfirmed.

Two Coast Guard officers were reported injured with minor injuries
A large-scale search and rescue operation was launched under the coordination of the National Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (EKSED), involving multiple Coast Guard vessels, a private boat with divers, and an Air Force helicopter equipped with thermal cameras. Search operations by sea and air are ongoing.
The hospital on Chios was placed on emergency footing, with all available medical staff called in to handle the large number of injured, including children and pregnant women.
Unclear and conflicting information
At the time of writing, reliable facts remain difficult to establish. Greek media reports differ regarding:
The number of people on board
Whether the incident occurred during manoeuvres to immobilise the boat or during a high-speed chase
Whether shots were fired during the incident
Official statements describe the event as a collision during an operation to stop a “suspicious vessel,” while other reports indicate a dangerous interception close to shore.
Context
What is clear is that this incident occurred while Greek authorities were attempting to stop a boat from reaching Greek territory, once again resulting in loss of life. The Greek Coast Guard has been repeatedly criticised in the past for interception practices that place people at serious risk, particularly when carried out against overcrowded and unstable boats carrying children and other vulnerable individuals.
Based on available footage and the high number of children reported on board, there are strong indications that the people involved were mostly Afghan nationals, although nationalities have not yet been officially confirmed.

A video has emerged showing, with disturbing clarity, how the Greek Coast Guard endangers the lives of vulnerable people seeking protection in Europe.
Over the last five years, the Aegean Sea has become the site of countless shipwrecks. In a vast majority of these tragedies, serious questions have been raised about the involvement of Greek authorities — questions that have never been properly investigated.
Greek Coast Guard units consistently go to extreme lengths to prevent boats packed with men, women, and children from reaching the Greek islands. These pushback operations are dangerous by design, carried out on direct political orders from the Greek government.
Thousands of pushback cases have been documented in this period. Thousands of people have drowned. Yet almost none of these deaths have been thoroughly and independently investigated. Instead, they are quietly buried in bureaucracy, deliberately left unanswered, and effectively erased from the public record.
This time, someone managed to capture parts of the operation on video. Normally, these abuses happen under cover of darkness — no witnesses, no recordings, no evidence. As if they never happened.
But they do. Every single day.
And they are illegal.
Under both national and international law, Greece is obliged to rescue people in distress — not endanger them.
Pushbacks violate:
• The 1951 Refugee Convention (non-refoulement, Article 33)
• The European Convention on Human Rights (Articles 2, 3, and 5 – right to life, prohibition of torture, unlawful detention)
• EU Charter of Fundamental Rights (Articles 1, 18, 19)
• UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and SOLAS/SAR Conventions, which require immediate rescue of anyone in danger at sea
• Greek domestic law (Law 4825/2021 and others), which also obliges rescue and prohibits refoulement
There is no legal ambiguity: pushbacks are prohibited, and the deliberate endangerment of lives at sea is a criminal act.
Yet these operations continue, openly and systematically.
Everyone knows. Nothing changes.
These are not “isolated incidents”.
They are EU-sanctioned, EU-funded, and Frontex-supported violations — carried out with full knowledge of European institutions and paid for with European taxpayers’ money.
Too many have already died in these waters.
How many more must die before we stop this insanity?
The video is, as far as we have been able to determine, from last year, but shows in all clarity, what has been ongoing since 2020 until this day in the Aegean Sea.

Brutally Beaten Under Greek Pushback
A boat carrying 34 people, 11 of them small children, was intercepted inside Greek waters near Chios on October 25.
Masked men from a Greek Coast Guard vessel threatened the group at gunpoint, beat them, seized their phones and belongings, and towed their boat back toward Turkey.
A young girl hid her phone and called Aegean Boat Report for help. We alerted Turkish authorities and stayed in contact until rescue arrived. Videos showed clear evidence of violence – a man bleeding from his head, a woman from her hand.
For more than five years, Greek authorities have systematically beaten, tortured and abandoned people at sea – crimes confirmed by Frontex and OLAF investigations. Europe cannot claim to defend human rights while financing and protecting those who violate them.
All 34 were Hazara from Afghanistan – a minority the Taliban targets for persecution. When deported from Turkey through Iran to Afghanistan, they face imprisonment or death.

Disaster Strikes Again — This Time Outside Bodrum
17 Dead, Including 5 Small Children
A new tragedy unfolded off the coast of Bodrum early this morning.
A boat reported to be carrying 19 people sank shortly after departure from the western coast, believed to be heading toward the Greek island of Kos.
According to a statement from the Muğla Governor’s Office, an Afghan man who survived the disaster managed to swim back to the mainland and raise the alarm shortly after 1:00 a.m.
He told emergency services that 18 people had set out in the rubber boat, but that it had quickly taken on water and sunk. Later, the number of passengers was confirmed to be slightly higher.
Search and rescue teams located a second survivor who had managed to reach Çelebi Island off Bodrum. Seventeen bodies have been recovered so far.
Aegean Boat Report has confirmed that the passengers were Afghan nationals. Among the dead are at least five small children — two boys and three girls.
Search and rescue operations have continued throughout the day in an effort to locate any remaining missing persons.
Once again, the Aegean Sea has claimed more lives — souls lost unnecessarily at the gates of Europe.
Our deepest condolences go out to the families, friends, and loved ones of those who perished in this devastating shipwreck.

In the early hours of Thursday, September 25, a 12-year-old Afghan boy was found drifting alone in a life raft in the dark off the Turkish coast near Kuşadası.
The boy explained that he had been left there by the Greek Coast Guard after trying to reach the island of Samos.
What kind of human being forces a child into a life raft at night and abandons him at sea? This is not just illegal—it is inhumane, cruel, and utterly beyond comprehension.
And this is not an isolated incident. In June, two small children were found drifting naked in a life raft off Lesvos after the Greek Coast Guard stripped them of their clothes and abandoned them.
Each time we believe we’ve seen the worst, something even darker emerges. It takes a particularly twisted mindset to commit such acts against anyone—let alone against children.
The situation in the Aegean has reached a terrifying low. There appears to be no limit to the cruelty the Greek Coast Guard is willing to inflict.

Il riferimento a “Bella ciao” non ha nulla a che vedere con l’inno della Resistenza, piuttosto è un riferimento presente in un videogioco di cui era patito, così come varie altre varie allusioni - che ovviamente si guardano bene dal citare - tutte provenienti dal mondo dei videogiochi.
Usare una persona con evidenti fragilit�� mentali come un simbolo della sinistra violenta e del “pericoloso antifascismo” è una delle operazioni più squallide e vergognose che si possano concepire.
E, se esistesse una destra decente, oggi, invece di sciacallare sulla morte di un uomo, si chiederebbe come è possibile che delle armi così potenti finiscano con tale sconcertante facilità nelle mani di persone instabili, ovvero il modello di società che hanno voluto e difendono loro.
