I didn’t know about the earliest origin of Memorial Day until I was a grown-ass man, and it’s because some folks didn’t want us to.

In 2021, organizers at an Ohio Memorial Day ceremony muted retired Army Lt. Col. Barnard Kemter for nearly two minutes the moment he began discussing how formerly enslaved Black Americans exhumed the remains of Union soldiers to give them proper burials.

Sometimes it’s easy to wonder if our prayers are making a difference in a world that feels so heavy and broken. But God reminds us in James 5:16 that “the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” So keep praying for the friend who seems distant but may be struggling, for families in hard times, and for healing, provision, peace, and restoration for those God places on your heart. Never underestimate the power of bringing someone before God in prayer. Even when no one else sees it, those quiet prayers matter. They carry weight, make an impact, and God hears every one. You may never fully realize how many lives they touch, but Heaven does. So don’t stop praying. God is still moving in ways you cannot yet see. 🤍

Heavenly Father, as I step into this new week, I surrender it into Your hands. Thank You for the gift of life, health, and opportunities ahead. I ask for Your guidance in every decision, Your protection over my home and loved ones, and Your wisdom in every challenge. May this week be filled with favor, breakthrough, joy, and peace.
