The @JSerraLionsBB team won its’ Trinity League opening series on Friday, as the Lions topped the Servite Friars 3-1 at JSerra Catholic High School.
JSerra improves to 7-6 overall on the season.
The Lions jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
Sophomore Shane D’Arcy singled to center and was sacrificed to second base by junior Takashi Rutherford.
An infield single by senior Owen Capron put runners on the corner for senior Ethan Kriwinski, who bunted for an RBI single to score D’Arcy.
The Lions added to the lead in the fourth.
Rutherford walked to open the inning, which was followed by a single to left field by Capron.
Kriwinski produced a bunt single to load the bases with no one out.
Senior Cole Strane’s sacrifice fly to left scored Rutherford to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.
Two pitches later, senior Carter Meza stroked an RBI double to right to plate Capron to give JSerra a 3-0 advantage.
Servite tallied a single run on the fifth inning, but the tandem of sophomore Mason Mazzacavallo and senior Taylor Easthope closed out the Friars over the final 2.2 innings to preserve the win.
Junior Otto Graham picked up the win, as he continued his strong season by throwing 4.1 innings and allowing only one run while striking out four.
