It is with deep sadness that I heard of the passing of my old friend @MrDaveBaker .
Dave was a giant in so many ways with a smile and gentleness worthy of the most amazing educators spiced up with a brilliant mind and amazing wit. He brought light where there was little light.
As an educator for 40 years and the national chair of the School Food Review group I congratulate the government’s offer to give all young people on universal credit a free school meal. For more information

@OAK_CEO a real honour and privilege to work with this great trust over the last few days. Brilliantly committed, flexible to change and always with pupils at the heart of all that they do.
Really great to be working with ex WHF colleagues on projects across the country. I’m reminded again why you were so valuable and so valued for the work you do. Thankyou

Brilliant outcome and wishing Dan all the success in the world. Definitely an excellent candidate
Amazing campaign recognising the size and impact of food insecurity for children living with a poor diet plus the emotional stress caused by a lack of good nutrition.
@mothers_manif, the fantastic campaign doing hunger strikes to challenge the government over food poverty has just launched a @GoFundMeUK to support their work. Everything you give will be doubled. Please give what you can. Thanks. #foodinsecurity https://t.co/7SNvJggxO9
Astonishing the threshold for child benefit to be raised to £120k per household but to be eligible for Free School Meals the household limit remains an income of less than £7,400 “Levelling Up” or crushing down? You decide.@sfmtweet@Food_Foundation,@BiteBack2030@ChefsinSchools
As a lifelong educator I’ve seen over decades how destructive food insecurity/ a poor diet can harm young people’s present and their futures. Thankyou @LibDems for leading in what often seems a political wilderness. Where are your peers and what do they have to say on this matter
🙏 Great to hear the @LibDems re-affirm their commitment to expanding #FreeSchoolMeals today!
We challenge all political parties to extend this vital nutritional safety net to ensure all children can grow up healthy and nourished.

Really excited to be one of the judges today at what must be one of the most prestigious school food awards ever. School leaders, food producers and caterers do such a good job. Great way to recognise it!
🏆 Wow! @jamieoliverreceived 1,500+ submissions for the #GoodSchoolFoodAwards2024 to celebrate our amazing #SchoolFood and #FoodEducation heroes nationwide!
An expert panel - chaired by our very own CE Stephanie Slater - will be shortlisting very soon. Good luck 🤞
Honoured to speak at @10DowningStreet to mark World Down Syndrome Day #WDSD24. We are committed to implementing the Down Syndrome Act, ensuring people with Down Syndrome always receive the support they need. I was also interviewed by Ruben from @Channel4News who has Down syndrome
📢 Today is #SingleParentsDay which celebrates the dedication and resilience of single parent families!
Yet the latest figures show 35% of single parents have experienced #foodinsecurity - meaning they are having to skip meals.

Totally support NFER’s assertion that there’s a teacher recruitment crisis but broadening the curriculum by making it more inclusive to learn and more exciting to teach may make the invitation to learn and the desire to teach more compelling as a start.
Thoroughly enjoyed the day and was fascinated to hear about the EPIC /Fuel study by @EPICfoodstudy And its findings on Secondary school food. Jacob from @BiteBack2030 was great giving us his lived experience.
Brill day up in BHam for the FUEL research workshop. Key moments were @capstick_nick describing using food as a learning & nurture tool & Jacob from @BiteBack2030 describing from lived experience how the system is against CYP. Look forward to the final report & actions! 🍽️👏🏼
If, as both parties suggest success lies in “growing the economy” then creativity, innovation, risk taking and enabling young people to think and explore is where the genius lies not just following process and memory to understand but through curiosity, interpretation and wonder.
Totally agree Michael. For me it was about learning and understanding something I was ignorant of but which was important to the school community and then later other schools when I became a CEO.
What a brilliant staff mindset 🤩
I remember my headteacher @capstick_nick doing a fast with us back in the day 20+ years ago and as a primary school kid that meant so much. Idk how many teachers would do the same in my town today but I’m intrigued to find out #empathy
