4. Economy

On the state of the economy, the Bishops also talked about the hunger in the land.

President Bola Tinubu again acknowledged the difficulties many Nigerians are facing as a result of the bold but necessary reforms that his administration embarked upon to reposition the economy. He told the bishops that Nigeria is coming out of the dark tunnel onto the path of sustainable growth.

So, please what did the President do that is wrong? Simply because he didn't promise to order states to hand over mission schools or to accept that INEC is carrying out his orders or to pledge he will convince some APC governors to join ADC and NDC so as to have a strong opposition?

If you're called in the Lord's vineyard, please stick to the vineyard. The moment you decide to cross into the battlefield, your description changes from farmer to a soldier and in war just like in political contests, all is fair.

When Obi said that 2023 election was a religious war, the Bishops were sleeping.

Nobody should play on people's intelligence.

Our dear Cardinal didn't even mask it. He was firmly inside the arena.

Someone who is listening only to the audio for the first time will certainly mistake the speaker for a Politician.

When we advocate that Churches should stay out of politics, it's precisely to avoid this kind of scenario. When you dabble into the political arena, you're essentially opening up yourself to be treated like one.

Let's take a look at some of the items the Bishops went to table before the President and the responses of the President to these items so that people can point out to me where the President erred:

1. Return of missionary schools back to the church and support to build more

The Bishops asked for the President’s intervention to probably Decree a return of all government schools that originally belonged to the church back to the church.

President Tinubu in response acknowledge that it is necessary but REMINDED the Bishops that this is a matter they should raise with the Governors in their various domains and not with him because the Federal government is not holding onto any missionary schools and this doesn't require a constitutional amendment but dialogue with the states. In fact he gave them an example that as Governor of Lagos State, he handed over some schools back to the Catholic Church and worked with his friend, Anthony Cardinal Okogie to drive the process. This is before Obi replicated the same thing in Anambra (a plan Ngige began by the way).

Tinubu also told them that the land use act vests control of lands with the states and working with their various states they can get more land to build more schools.

2. Insecurity

The Bishops talked about Nigeria's security challenges and said that Nigeria is bleeding.

President Tinubu in his response agreed that of Nigeria has immense security challenges across many theatres but said that he doesn't agree with the term the Bishops used to describe the CURRENT situation.

The President however noted that he asked for the job and inherited the assets and liabilities and went further to tell you some of the steps his administration is taking to tackle our security challenges which are mostly down to the way our system has been structured and also our geographical peculiarities.

In another fora he had earlier mentioned the constitutional move to decentralise policing through the creation of State Police (something no administration has had the courage and will to push) among other measures such as expansion of Army divisions from 8 to 12 (the largest expansion in one fell swoop) to hasten response time coupled with the unprecedented recruitment of an additional 28,000 soldiers.

3. INEC, free and fair elections and one-party system

The Bishops now fully went political here, trying to insinuate that INEC is doing Tinubu's bidding and asking Tinubu to ensure that INEC is ALLOWED to conduct a free and fair election. This, to say the least is an indirect attempt to state that Tinubu is controlling INEC. The Bishops also kicked against what they described as the tilt to a one-party system saying it's not good for democracy.

Now, I don't know what the Bishops want Tinubu to say. Is it to accept their so-called "TRUTH" that he is controlling INEC or to promise them that he will help the opposition to be strong so that Nigeria won't have a one-party state?

Tinubu first and foremost reminded them that INEC is neutral (none of them pointed out any specific thing INEC did to suggest Tinubu is controlling them, so it's safe to say they are echoing the anthem of the opposition). He then told them in clear terms that he can't give the opposition red carpet to unseat him. The opposition should tell Nigerians what they will do differently and woo voters. Again Tinubu won't be helping the opposition to put their house in order, it's like giving them a rope to h@ng you. No politician including the Bishops would do that.

When OBJ left prison, Andy Uba (through Stella Obasanjo) provided him with funds to bring him back on his feet including medical trip to USA. Andy was duly compensated as he was appointed Special Assistant on Special Duties & Domestic Affairs to the President. During the OBJ Presidency, Andy was famously known as the President's right-hand man and the man to seek to have access to the President.

The men who played major roles to facilitate the emergence of OBJ as presidential candidate of the PDP in 1998 are military generals like Abdulsalam Abubakar, Ibrahim Babangida, Aliyu Gusau, TY Danjuma, etc. There was even an agreement that OBJ would handover to IBB after completing his first term.

Even Atiku's emergence as VP was a choice made by OBJ after ignoring the 3-man list submitted by the National Chairman, Chief Solomon Lar. OBJ refused to consider any of Abubakar Rimi, Adamu Ciroma, and Professor Jerry Gana. Instead he picked Atiku because he felt his CV wasn't intimidating like that of Rimi, or Ciroma, or Gana. He couldn't have picked Gana anyway because of the need to give the ticket a religious balance.

THE PRESENCE OF THE LAGOS STATE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE AT THE VENUE OF THE INAUGURATION OF THE CITY BOY MOVEMENT, LAGOS STATE CHAPTER

The attention of the City Boy Movement has been drawn to comments, reports and public commentary seeking to attach political significance to the attendance of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, at the inauguration of the City Boy Movement's Lagos State Chapter.

For the avoidance of doubt, the mere presence of the Commissioner of Police at a public event should not, without more, be interpreted as political endorsement, partisan participation or institutional alignment with the organisers of that event.

Public officers, particularly those charged with maintaining law and order, regularly attend or deploy personnel to public gatherings in the discharge of their official responsibilities. Such responsibilities extend to political, civic, religious, professional, educational and community events where security considerations require their presence or supervision. Their attendance at such events, standing alone, does not constitute support for, affiliation with or endorsement of any organisation or cause.

The constitutional and statutory responsibilities of the Nigeria Police Force include the preservation of public peace, the protection of lives and property, the prevention and detection of crime, and the maintenance of law and order during lawful public assemblies. These responsibilities are owed equally to all persons and organisations without discrimination and should not be misconstrued as evidence of institutional bias or political preference.

Accordingly, it is neither fair nor accurate to infer, solely from the Commissioner's attendance, that the Nigeria Police Force has taken a partisan position or abandoned its obligation of professional neutrality. Public institutions should be assessed on the basis of objective facts rather than conjecture or speculation.

The City Boy Movement respects the constitutional role and institutional independence of all security agencies. We neither seek nor expect preferential treatment from any agency of government. Like every law-abiding organisation, we expect only that our lawful activities will continue to enjoy the protection guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and other applicable laws.

We equally acknowledge and appreciate the professional security arrangements that ensured the peaceful, orderly and incident-free conduct of the inauguration. Professional policing contributes significantly to public confidence in democratic institutions and facilitates the exercise of citizens' constitutional freedoms, including the right to peaceful assembly.

We therefore urge members of the public, stakeholders and commentators to exercise restraint, promote factual discourse and refrain from attributing partisan motives where no credible evidence exists. Responsible public commentary strengthens democratic institutions, whereas speculation and misinformation unnecessarily undermine public confidence in institutions established to serve all Nigerians.

The City Boy Movement remains steadfast in its commitment to peaceful democratic engagement, responsible political participation, respect for the rule of law, and constructive nation-building in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
