@Morrigan_Astro If I ask someone to dinner, I expect to pay for it. If this is the kind of thing she spends her time thinking about, it's a huge red flag.
@EvanderSolum @s_watka@lporiginalg You've obviously never had a real job if you think it's simply a matter of 'staying a bit longer'. When a job requires you to use your brain, it's not something that can be turned on and off at will. And those jobs are usually salary. You don't have the luxury of clocking out.
@LibertyCappy Unreasonable expectations. Life sucks for most people, most of the time. Unfortunately, our generation was raised to believe all they needed to do was 'work hard', and that would get them a house, a car, a spouse, 2.5 kids, and a dog. That is an exceptional standard of living.
@s_watka@lporiginalg Manual labor is not that bad. It is way less stressful than the type of professional jobs we have today. If I could work in a factory and make enough money to buy a house and a car, I would.
@CalltoActivism Americans think they live in a meritocracy, so guys like this are often judged harshly. Many would say he deserves to be a drifter because he didn't work hard enough. Life and economics are complicated. It's good to remind ourselves that people are more than their circumstances.
@RoKhanna This will only make things more expensive and increase poor people's dependence on the government. You are assuming capitalism is the problem, but we don't even have capitalism! End privileges and bailouts for large corps. Enforce antitrust laws. Let people help themselves.
@wydccalamity@EverythingOOC That was probably the most damaging propaganda statement society parroted to children for decades. Success is complex, and this ignores all of the other known and unknown factors.
@EverythingOOC "In college, late work will not be accepted" 🤡 and many other statements about how hard college is and how high the standards are. It was a joke, just like highschool
