@jenconkle A-4 In edu, much is reinvented several times over and one can feel pressure to adopt the latest fad. I like the “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” approach. Use the new to enhance the “tried and true”. Tech is a tool to enhance instruction not replace it. #BoldSchoolOCS
@jenconkle Q3- I’m the “guide on the side” who tries to create an environment where it is safe to take risks/learn from mistakes. Self-assessment with frequent formative feedback and opportunity to reassess are just some ways students are encouraged to struggle productively. #BoldSchoolOCS
@jenconkle A1-Self-assessment should be a “feedback loop that never ends.” Students need clear expectations, opportunity to apply learning and repeat. #BoldSchoolOCS
Congratulations sophomores, Jasmin El Abyad and Luke Daniel, for winning Consummate Diplomat in their respective councils at MeDMUNV 2020! #EaglePride#OnTopOfTheWorld#Representin’
A4-With D.I., it’s important to keep things moving, know when to move on. Tech can help by offering various forms of easy formative assessment etc. Breaking D.I. up with the use of tech helps to keep students engaged. #BoldSchoolOCS
A2-Turn learning targets into opened -ended Qs or add the performance verbs from DOK3 &4 to the front. Begin each lesson with an essential Q to solve. Rigorous Qs often lead to more Qs and several correct answers. The Qs should grab em by the brain! #BoldSchoolsOCS
A3-Agreed! 1st assignment to my struggling test-takers is visual concept maps, lots of color and visuals. Students raise test averages 1-2 letter grades. College profs have started requiring elaborate concept maps in lieu of essays. #BoldSchoolOCS
A1-Most teachers have a “fail forward” aka growth mindset. Growth/success happen when we reflect/adapt. Great philosophy to model for students. Let them know when we’re trying new and ask for their feedback. Kids love to help troubleshoot. #FailForwardTogether#BoldSchoolOCS
@SamanthaOverman Yes, the ACT also still requires handwritten essays. The college board did a study and found students who used cursive scored better on their essays. Yet, many schools have stopped teaching cursive. #boldschoolocs
A2-I agree. The tech is a tool to enhance, not replace. For example, my AP students must hand-write their timed essays on the AP exam. So, I would do a disservice to allow them to type essays. Let the Learning Target be our guide 😊 #BoldSchoolOCS
