Every time I read about regional slang, I learn that "jawn" is a colloquialism of Philadelphia. I was born in Philly and raised in the suburbs. After collage I went into the service and moved away. I have never heard the term "jawn" and can't believe it is really a thing.

@chuckwoolery I don't agree, Chuck. Whoopi is using the old definition of race. She's saying that Germans and Jews are both Caucasians, and she's right using that obsolete definition. The Nazi's were also using an obsolete idea of Aryan race to separate the Jews. Whoopi is just stupid.

Whoopi is getting vilified because of her comments on the holocaust. Whether she is right or wrong depends on how you define race. Race used to be defined as white, black, or Asian. Now it's more loosely defined by ethnicity. Race is in the eye of the beholder.
