I am not a christian, and I don't know what christians usually think are defining characteristics for one to be a christian. But I just don't get the hate WLC is getting simply because he is arguing against the creed (to the point of being called a non christian and the likes).

Yup! High level analytic philosophy of religion is full of eccentric views like that. I really disliked the reaction of the majority of the christians to WLC's views online. He's just seeking the truth (hopefully). So what if he is not mainstream and has some weird beliefs?

I understand Christians treat this stuff as actually relevant to the fate of their eternal soul, but frankly, any philosopher worth respecting is going to have a couple of Crank Beliefs and if you want interesting things you’re gonna have to widen your tolerance for crank beliefs. I think that the phil. Rel sphere needs to explore some more middle-ground views instead of the common, mainstream ones. This is for both theists and atheists. This whole WLC situation reminds me of the Goff one (even though his christianity is much more eccentric indeed).

This deserves more attention. Humean arguments from evil, especially those who compare other forms of theism (bare theism, deism, etc) with Perfect Being Theism, are pretty good IMO. I also think it significantly weakens the "total evidence approach" against arguments from evil.

@SbordiNico @dannyphiltalk Regardless of whether you are christian or not, everyone should know Dyer is pretty bad. I can just assume that he probably did not lose in case they ever dialogued. Dyer is, with all due respect, bad apologetics and not good philosophical content.

@WriterJohnBuck Yeah. WLC has said some crazy stuff and has some eccentric views and there are better defenders of the faith IMO. But saying he is irrelevant is crazy. He is one of the most influential apologists ever, I think. By no means irrelevant. He also has engaged with some of the best.

This returns to my original thought that this all might just be some sort of semantic issue. What is meant by "dead", or "solved" here matters, and people might be talking past each other.

@TLArrington @analyticatheism (5) LPOE is dead, is in my opinion, saying something along the lines of "the LPOE as originally advanced by J.L Mackie is dead". This, is a plausible statement (even though I am not so sure), and I think I agree.
However, treating it as if *the* LPOE is dead is just false. As

But I can be pretty certain Joe isn't going to appeal to karmic theodicies (Joe in his theodicy video ranked it low) now that he's a Catholic. But I don't think he likes free will, either. I can only wonder

@Willy881188 @smith_john38858 @WriterJohnBuck As a christian maybe (that would be a very unorthodox form of christianity, but still). But he can't as a *Catholic*. Since Catholic doctrine officially says that Catholics can't affirm reincarnation and karma. And yes, Catholics are christians, but it's a *form* of christianity.
