“So many companies would go out of business if the minimum wage is raised.”
So you agree? That’s companies rely on the exploitation of employees to stay in business?
So incredibly tired of living in a country so rife with anti-intellectualism that even institutions of higher learning would rather debase themselves than stand up to the submental troglodytes who have destroyed and continue to destroy literally everything that matters
Capitalism has made people never ever consider ethical or even practical implications of any of their actions, the only things they consider are “can I buy something for this?” and “can I use this to personally gain?” Things people have said to me in the past 2 days:
Somewhere along the way, being wrong about facts was reclassified as "having an opinion," and knowing facts was stigmatized as "having bias." It's a big part of why we're in hell now.
“Why are folks getting dumber?” Because they don’t read. “Why aren’t men as romantic & poetic as they used to be?” Because they don’t read. “Why are people so vulnerable to propaganda?” “Why is everyone a conspiracy theorist?” Because they don’t read. Because they don’t read.
"In 2023...... 817,035 more women than men applied to universities and colleges, federal data shows. Boys also have lower mean scores on the SAT, score lower overall on the ACT and have lower grade point averages in high school."
Mediocre white men finding out they were the chief beneficiaries of DEI is.. amazing.
Tattoos indicate "high time preference", the preference for current desires (as well as vulnerability to social pressures and socially received values) over the optionality of the future.
Tattoos are a great example case because the social benefits for tattoos are nil, whereas the social costs are significant, though context dependent.
The core requirement to belong to the upper decile of human capability is to privilege the future and the long term, over the present moment. This is "low time preference".
I wish the conservative governors warning that New York will “collapse” because Mamdani won understood this:
Without blue states, America would look like a developing country, patchy internet, collapsing schools, no tech, no medicine, no future.
Red states cash the checks. Blue states write them.
You don’t fund the nation, you drain it.
The loudest shouts come from the emptiest hands.
Breaking: Text messages of Young Republican groups across the country have just been leaked.
They talk about putting Democrats in “gas chambers,” attacking “Jews,” calling Black people “watermelon people,” calling to “rape” their enemies, and bringing back slavery.
This talking point is one that conspiracy theorists love because it flatters people with high ego and low intelligence by implying their opinions as just as valuable as experts' on issues that often have rigid standards for how expertise is established.
Over the long term, we shouldn’t have political gerrymandering in America, just a fair fight between Republicans and Democrats based on who’s got better ideas. But since Texas is taking direction from a partisan White House and gerrymandering in the middle of a decade to try and maintain the House despite their unpopular policies, I have tremendous respect for how Governor Newsom has approached this. He’s put forward a smart, measured approach in California, designed to address a very particular problem at a very particular moment in time.
