THE US 30-YEAR TREASURY YIELD JUST HIT ITS WORST STRETCH SINCE 2006.
It has now traded above 5% for 56 straight trading days in 2026, the most of any year in 20 years.
Oil above $90 after the Iran escalation is bringing inflation fears back.
Heavy government spending already made investors wary of lending for 30 years.
Now corporate bonds are stealing that money instead.
Hyperscalers paid 110 to 120 basis points more than Treasuries in August, and foreign investors put $61 billion more into corporate debt than into Treasuries.
The gap is about to widen further. The government needs to borrow $739 billion this quarter, while $215 billion in new corporate debt hits the market in September alone.
Washington is now competing with America's biggest companies for the same money.
Bessent doubled bond buybacks to $4 billion per operation to calm yields, but the effect faded almost instantly. The bigger buybacks haven't even started yet, and they're too small to fix the real problem: too much debt, too much borrowing.
Warsh already sounded hawkish at Jackson Hole. This week's jobs and inflation data will decide what comes next.
If inflation stays high and the Fed holds off, investors will just demand higher yields to keep lending long-term.

Macron says: « We are planning a meeting
here in France 🇨🇵 and we will invite all African leaders so that we can discuss Africa's economic prosperity
Captain IBRAHIM TRAORÉ RESPONDS:
« So you're not African, but you're planning a meeting to discuss African issues outside of Africa while inviting African leaders to travel outside of Africa to attend an African summit chaired by a non-African outside of Africa? Well, count me out of participating. »
The true definition of an african leader that possesses dignity and self esteem.
Price action now looks like AI Slop as a handful of AI-linked megacaps drive the indexes while the average stock often goes the other way, so the tape has become “AI on / AI off” instead of a market of distinct businesses.
The result is sloppy, crowded, narrative-driven swings: violent rotations on little news, weak breadth under index highs, and valuations built on massive capex whose actual output still looks a lot like slop. And the AI companies ready to go public can’t justify their absurd valuations while they lose money. Crazy times.
This just reminded me that Hal is also interested in all kinds of interstellar plants😣 MC literally saw his collection of books, including Ecology: Earth’s Wonderful Plants, Simulating Natural Environments, and Spaceship Ecosystems, on the island🥹
And then we know Hal left the Backtrackers and chose to stay on the island and live as an ordinary person, making friends and tending to Earth’s plants with his own hands… watching seeds that were extinct in his homeland take root and grow🥺 And that same island was eventually given to Xavier as a gift😭
Xavier, Jeremiah, Hal… the plant-parent trio that could’ve been😭🌱 Literally, people from outside Earth caring this much about Earth is making me emotional🥲
🇺🇦🇺🇸 The Palantir mafia grows: Fedorov launches defense-tech company backed by Alex Karp
Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has announced he is creating his own defense-technology company, with Palantir CEO Alex Karp becoming its first major investor.
Fedorov and Karp already have a long history. Karp traveled to Kiev in June 2022 and became the first major Western CEO to meet Zelensky after the start of Russia’s military operation. Palantir subsequently became deeply integrated into Ukraine’s war effort, providing data-analysis and AI technology for battlefield intelligence and targeting.
Karp himself said in 2023 that Palantir was “responsible for most of the targeting in Ukraine,” with its systems combining battlefield information, satellite imagery and other data to identify Russian forces and potential targets.
