I went to a dealership to change my car. I left with a startup idea.

I currently drive a Mercedes GLC 300, but I wanted to drive something different.

So I went to a dealership in Miami to see what it would take to trade mine in.

After going through the numbers, I realized I could lose more than $12,000 in value just trying to move from the car I had to the car I wanted.

I left the dealership frustrated.

Then something interesting happened.

I met someone who had the kind of vehicle I wanted, and he was interested in mine.

We started talking about what it would take to simply exchange our vehicles, handle the paperwork at the DMV, transfer ownership, settle any difference in value and move on with our lives.

That conversation made me ask a simple question:

How many millions of Americans are driving cars they’re tired of while someone else would happily drive that exact car?

Why should selling your car or trading it in at a dealership be your only options just because you want to drive something different?

So I decided to build CARCHANGER™.

CARCHANGER is a peer-to-peer vehicle exchange marketplace that helps you find verified car owners who may want the vehicle you have and may be driving something you want.

The idea is simple:

Tell us what you drive.

Tell us what you’d rather drive.

We find potential Changes.

But finding two cars is only part of the problem.

Trust is just as important as the match.

We’re building CARCHANGER with safeguards around the exchange process. Owners can be identity verified. Vehicle ownership and VIN information can be checked. Vehicle history and title information can be reviewed. Independent vehicle inspections can help both owners understand the condition of each vehicle before deciding to proceed.

We’re also building for the real world, because not every car is fully paid off and two cars will rarely have exactly the same value.

For vehicles with loans or liens, our goal is to create a structured process for dealing with lenders, payoff amounts, ownership transfers and the paperwork necessary to complete an exchange properly.

Where there is a difference in vehicle value, both owners should understand that difference and have a clear way to handle it.

We’re not trying to eliminate dealerships. There are plenty of situations where a dealership makes perfect sense.

We’re creating another option.

Because sometimes you don’t actually want to sell your car.

You just want to drive something different.
