Another week has gone by, and still nothing from the HSE.

No decision.
No update.
Not even an acknowledgement.

Katie is still living in pain while emails go unanswered and decisions are delayed. The HSE sent her to Dr Paley for a second opinion, and he confirmed that she needs surgery and that he can help her.

Yet we are still waiting.

This is exactly why we are fundraising.

We cannot depend on the HSE anymore. We cannot keep putting Katie’s future in the hands of a system that continues to delay while her condition deteriorates.

Katie has already waited nearly 16 years for proper intervention. She cannot afford to lose more time.

To the HSE, this may be another file sitting on a desk. To me, this is my daughter’s life.

€70,290 raised… but Katie is still so far from the surgery she needs.

I keep looking at this total and trying to feel hopeful, but the truth is I’m frightened.

We still need €329,710.

Katie has already lost so much to pain. Her independence, her plans, her college year and the chance to live like other 19-year-olds. While her friends are moving forward, she is left waiting, watching her life pass by from her bedroom.

No mother should have to look at her child and know there is a surgeon willing to help, but money is the reason she cannot get there.

I have spent years fighting hospitals, chasing answers, writing emails, contacting politicians and begging people to listen. Now I am begging the public to help me get my daughter the treatment she has waited almost 16 years for.

I lie awake wondering what will happen if I cannot raise enough.

Will her hip deteriorate beyond repair?

Will she lose the chance to keep walking?

Will I have to live knowing the help existed, but I couldn’t afford to reach it?

That thought breaks me.

Update — 8th July 2026.

I just don’t know what to do anymore.

I have fought every way I know how for Katie.

I have emailed.
I have begged.
I have fundraised.
I have gone public.
I have stood in front of politicians.
I have tried to raise the money myself because my daughter needs surgery.

For 4 years, I have tried to raise the funds to get Katie to Florida. I hoped people would get on board and help us get her the surgery she needs.

But 4 years on, we still haven’t even reached a quarter of our target.

Katie is still waiting.
Still in pain.
Still without surgery.
Still without a proper answer.

This was 15th September 2025. I stood in front of Micheál Martin and told him about Katie. Days later, I was told the CEO of the HSE had been informed.

Now it’s 8th July 2026.

Katie has waited 15 years, 40 weeks and 7 days since her hip dysplasia was first recorded.

How much longer is she expected to suffer?

I am her mother and I will never stop fighting for her, but I am exhausted. Completely exhausted.

A 19-year-old girl should not have to rely on fundraising, strangers, shares and donations to get the surgery she needs.

This is Irish healthcare.

I have been sitting here for God knows how long, crying my eyes out.

For nearly 16 years, I have fought every single day for Katie.

I have fought through appointments, cancellations, referrals, reports, unanswered emails, endless waiting lists and promises that led to nowhere. I have begged for help. I have pleaded with politicians. I have contacted anyone I thought could possibly make a difference.

Katie’s case has been escalated all the way to the CEO of the HSE.

And still, we are no closer to getting her to Florida for the surgery she desperately needs.

I do not know how much more I am supposed to do.

My daughter is the one in pain every day. She is the one whose life is on hold. She has already had to defer college because her body cannot cope with the pain. She should be excited about her future, making plans, enjoying being 19.

Instead, she is waiting.

Waiting for a chance to walk without agony.
Waiting for a chance to sleep without pain.
Waiting for a chance to live her life instead of watching it pass her by.

And I am sitting here this morning feeling completely broken.

Not because I will ever stop fighting for Katie. I never will.

But because after nearly 16 years of fighting, I am exhausted from feeling like I am shouting into a void while my child suffers.

Katie has waited long enough.

Please, somebody hear us. Please help us get Katie to Florida before it is too late to save her hip.

Family Man Beat To Death By Migrant Teenagers In Dublin.

On Sunday 17 May 2026, at around 4:15pm on Mill Road in Blanchardstown, 37-year-old Alex Coughlan was attacked by two 16-year-old boys without warning.

The defenceless Irishman was forced to his knees, pleading for mercy as one teenager repeatedly punched and kicked him in the head. The second boy filmed the assault on his mobile phone. Alex screamed for help and begged them to stop. He had already handed over his wallet and bank cards, but hesitated when they demanded his gold ring, a gift from his father.

That moment of hesitation cost him his life.

The beating continued. Alex was left unconscious on the ground. He died three days later on 20 May in Connolly Hospital from catastrophic head injuries. His family made the selfless decision to donate his organs.

Two 16-year-old boys were arrested and charged with assault causing serious harm and robbery. The main attacker is a second-generation migrant born and raised in Ireland. The other, who filmed the attack, is a migrant with dual nationality. Both were described by locals as having non-native features.

Gardai later recovered the stolen ring from one of the boys homes, and Alex’s father identified it in court.

The teenagers appeared in Dublin Children’s Court on 27 May. A judge imposed strict reporting restrictions, warning against naming them or sharing the video of the attack circulating online due to their age. Bail was refused, and both teenagers remain remanded in custody.

On Saturday 30 May, what would have been Alex’s 38th birthday, hundreds gathered in Ballyfermot to farewell him. He was remembered as the glue of his family, a kind, gentle, and selfless man who brought laughter and joy to everyone around him.

A dedicated Bupa worker and passionate rugby fan, Alex is survived by his mother Brigid, father John, sister Zara, and brothers Philip and Jack. Mourners sang Happy Birthday and Ireland’s Call. Tributes described him as a truly beautiful soul and caring human being. A private cremation followed at Glasnevin Cemetery.

While Alex’s funeral took place, the Irish mainstream media gave far more coverage and focused far more outrage on the death of Congolese national Yves Sakila, 35. Sakila, who had dozens of previous convictions and multiple prison terms for repeated shoplifting, died on 15 May after being restrained by security staff during another shoplifting attempt. His death was quickly framed by activists as Ireland’s George Floyd moment, sparking protests, political speeches, and claims of racism.

Alex’s killing, a local Irish family man robbed and beaten to death in broad daylight while pleading for mercy received far less attention. Coverage focused on the attackers age and anonymity, with zero discussion of backgrounds or nationalities.

There were no mass candlelit vigils when Alex died, no major protests demanding justice, no political statements, and no national campaigns declaring that his life mattered.

No Netflix documentaries will ever examine Alex's final moments.

Certain tragedies fit a preferred political narrative and ignite weeks of outrage. Others, like the brutal murder of a gentle Irish family man, are treated as less newsworthy. This selective response from the Irish media and political class is an insult to Alex and every family who has lost someone in similar circumstances.

Alex Coughlan’s life mattered. He deserved better, and the people of Ireland deserve the truth.

RIP Alex Coughlan.

Both teenagers are next due in court on 24 June.

Seven years ago I wrote that Katie was in pain, falling, her leg turning in, her hip causing her so much suffering that some days she was asking to go back into her wheelchair.

Seven years ago I was waiting for surgeons to decide what they were going to do.

Seven years ago I was begging for her suffering not to be ignored.

And here we are now.

Seven years later, Katie is still waiting. Still in pain. Still being sent from consultant to consultant. Still losing pieces of her life while decisions are delayed, emails go unanswered, and nobody seems to understand that behind every waiting list is a real person.

Katie was a child then.

She is 19 now.

She has grown up waiting for help that never came properly. She has lost school days, college plans, confidence, muscle, weight, and years she will never get back.

Reading this old post makes me feel sick, because nothing about this should still be happening.

No young woman should have to spend years of her life begging to be helped.
