Another disappointing round of transfers for Thomas, where he doesn't even add 300 votes to the gap on Kyne. The left wing transfers will eventually elect a government TD, as I speculated when I saw the poll.

While we wait for the next count from #galw, I've done a "back of a fag packet" Excel exercise to project what would happen in a General Election, if the voting trends in #be26 were repeated. For this exercise I've given equal weight to the votes from #dubc and #galw.
SUMMARY:
The "Left Coalition" would win but still be short 7 TDs for an overall majority.
On the government side FF would be the big losers (down 17 seats). FG would almost hold what they have.
On the opposition side SF would lose out but the SocDems and Labour would make big gains, making a treble rotating Taoiseach (SF/SD/Labour) a probability.
II would more than double their vote and seat share, but Aontú would remain becalmed.
"As you were" for Independents and micro-parties.

Both bye-election results have been dreadful for @sinnfeinireland. Coming a distant second in Mary-Lou's backyard was an awful result, but finishing SEVENTH in #galw (where they topped the poll in #GE24) is beyond disastrous.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin at the Galway West count centre has acknowledged that the party did very poorly in Dublin Central. “We have a structural issue in Dublin Central that didn't start today, in fact it goes back 20 years now.”

You have to wonder if there's any future for @AontuIE as a stand alone party after today. A merger with @independent_ire seems a far better option.
Poor election for @fiannafaiIparty and @AontuIE. Aontu would struggle to pick up a council seat in #LE29 based on those figures.
