@metoffice Awful awful awful. How do I switch back to the previous version? Soooo many taps to get to the detail I want, ( feels like temperature etc), I also want that in conjunction with the other data for the day, you know just like the old app was. The old app didn’t need updating.
@MetMattTaylor@BBCBreakfast Matt, with the strength of wind and the forecast gusts and the possible disruption, how come this isn’t a named storm? I’m sure we’ve had named storms previously with lower, less gusty winds. Just wondering what gets classed as a storm rather than ‘just a bit blowy’?
I’ve been asked to share this so I’m asking you guys to share his - there raising funds to renovate there village hall if you can Go I can absolutely guarantee it’s a cracking night if you can’t a share would be amazing thank you 🥾🧦👍

Spare a thought as ever for National Park Rangers across the countryside who need to adjust stone circles to account for the clocks going back overnight. It’s an onerous task that they do with dignity.

So very true
Have you ever thought about this?
In 100 years like in 2123 we will all be buried with our relatives and friends.
Strangers will live in our homes we fought so hard to build, and they will own everything we have today. All our possessions will be unknown and unborn, including the car we spent a fortune on, and will probably be scrap, preferably in the hands of an unknown collector.
Our descendants will hardly or hardly know who we were, nor will they remember us. How many of us know our grandfather's father?
After we die, we will be remembered for a few more years, then we are just a portrait on someone's bookshelf, and a few years later our history, photos and deeds disappear in history's oblivion. We won't even be memories.
If we paused one day to analyse these questions, perhaps we would understand how ignorant and weak the dream to achieve it all was.
If we could only think about this, surely our approaches, our thoughts would change, we would be different people.
Always having more, no time for what's really valuable in this life. I'd change all this to live and enjoy the walks I've never taken, these hugs I didn't give, these kisses for our children and our loved ones, these jokes we didn't have time for. Those would certainly be the most beautiful moments to remember, after all they would fill our lives with joy.
And some of us waste it day after day with greed, selfishness and intolerance.
Every minute of life is priceless and will never be repeated, so take time to enjoy, be grateful for, and celebrate your existence.
This feature today with @1GarethWynJones is interesting given I’ve just released my film ‘Cumbrian Red’🐿️🎥 A chapter incs Wales as it happens. But either way, with the utmost of respect, this lady is factually incorrect. Science knows it and shows it irrespective of ‘opinions’.
1. There is NO vaccine to protect our native reds from the virus non-native greys carry and spread.
Work was being done on one and it was proving to be successful but sadly funding was cut a decade ago. During trials, sadly some reds died which caused controversy as they’re such precious creatures.
2. Irrespective of a possible vaccine, non native greys as @1GarethWynJones points out cause terrible harm to birdlife and habitats.
There’s more besides including hundreds of millions of pounds of damage to properties too. Hence, by law if one had a problem with greys in their property a pest controller has to remove the greys as it’s illegal to trap and release them into the wild. It’s the law.
3. There is a contraceptive in the works to control greys. It’s in my film. It’s proven to be very successful! 👍 Sadly, it’ll take decades to take effect and by then all reds may become extinct.
4. I fully appreciate the lady’s honesty and thoughts about sentience. I admire it!! 😊👍
But if we ALL seek to care for nature, habitats, wildlife (much of which is as a result of us humans) then we cannot just let things run wild and make things worse. Something needs to happen.
5. If we all care about nature, the environment and more besides, we ALL have to make tough decisions and choices. That’s a fact of life. As a human.
But we can’t standstill and do nowt.
I see lots of farmers doing great things for conservation and nature. They’re being entrepreneurs but sadly our current government and politics doesn’t help at all. Or big businesses too.
6. We need a societal shift in attitudes and clearly in this piece on GMB education too born of FACTS and EVIDENCE. For all things nature.
Folk may not always see eye to eye. That’s life.
But all we NEED is a common good that benefits all inc nature.
Not division and opinions. Which seems to be the norm nowadays in my view 😢
I could go on and on but…well, there’s probably no point 🤣 No one will see this tweet or whatever it’s bloody called nowadays on here.
Common sense. Working together. It all matters. Education too.
And may I add another word?
Inspiration matters too!!
Inspire folk to care. Learn. Do something but born of facts not emotions or ignorance 👍
We have found a poor little tortoise in one our substations in Wigan in the WN5 Wigan area. We have attached a photo in case anyone in the area recognizes it! If you know where the tortoise has escaped from please DM us and we will be in touch. Many thanks, Peter.
Please share this info! The A592 is going to be TOTALLY closed from the top of Kirkstone Pass down to Brothers Water from Monday 6th March for 4 weeks. The only positive is that the planned major roadworks will improve the road for those of us who regularly commute along it! Jon
Say goodbye to the most special sites for biodiversity in the UK and say goodbye to nature recovery.
The next general election cannot come quickly enough.
