@paulwradio Why does a player need to show their beliefs? They are doing their job.
Are fans who turn up to pride night not wearing a pride jersey also show their beliefs?
@jdlsprc LGB don't have to fight to exist in the 21st century. We fought for that in the 90's and won. Pride does not represent the ideals we once fought for, it's not surprising that there is now push back.
Keep sexuality and politics out of sport, or the sport is no longer for everyone
@hill_colinda What, a hockey player cannot play hockey because of some performative event for the fans. Weird take that.
Pride has an entire month dedicated to it. I think that is enough to affirm people's sexuality.
@Georgiakey2000 Why should players be forced to express their beliefs?
If a fan is not wearing a rainbow jersey on pride night, is that a representation of their belief?
I do not care what a player believes, I care that they put 100% into the game. That is what I am here to watch.
@prideglasgow But isn't that what this whole debacle has shown? Pride events is purely optical.
Sport should judge people by their conduct, not force public declarations of belief.
Disagreement is not hatred — and coercion is not inclusion.
@robjames182 I'm confused what human rights have not been given to the LGB community.
Same-sex marriage: legal
Adoption: legal
Workplace protection: legal
Hate crime protections: legal
Why the continuing need for Pride nights? Asking as someone who marched for the above rights in the 90's
@pageymoon Not wearing a rainbow coloured jersey does not make him a homophobe.
As someone who supported LGB rights in the 90's, the pride flag has now extended beyond its original purpose. What rights do LGB people not have that the rest of us do? Why the continuing need for Pride nights?
@_parps Why does hockey need to affirm who we love. Hockey is what brings us all together for one love, the sport of hockey. Leave the rest of the shit at the door.
If anyone shows homophobia, they get kicked out and banned. That is 100% more effective than rainbow coloured jerseys.
@Swankie24 Genuinely, why? I'd like to understand. If they had not labelled this as a pride night, the jerseys worn would be the same as every other game.
Should we just dispense with Pride nights to avoid any pain and disgust in future?
@BeveridgeT19950@TheAbbieC Exactly, this is a sport not a political rally. Do we want the coach to pick his team based on personal opinions? But still expect a title winning team? Makes no sense. For 90% of the season, this isn't an issue.
Hockey IS for everyone, including those who don't agree with you.
@AbstractChey@TheAbbieC But this highlights the problem surely. It shows that pride nights are performative only. Keep it off the ice, allow fans to be the driver of pride nights and money will still be raised.
We have kids takeover night, it doesn't mean that we put the juniors up against the Giants
@cardiffdevils The Scottish triple header might be great for fans, but it’s brutal for players and puts the Devils at a disadvantage. If you’re playing 3 in a row, it should be against the same team. That 3rd period we looked like we were conserving energy — Dundee didn’t have to.
