It’s a different skill set.

The #heroes among us

Dr. Rajesh woke up at 6.30 this morning. He felt groggy from three consecutive night duties in the last week. He had to trim his beard, - his newly wed wife was pointing it out that it was shabby - but that had to wait.

He started for work to Pulse Heart.

Dr. Nagesh woke up fresh at 7.00am. He had his toast with omelette and went to Ramdev hospital.

Both these doctors run the #emergency room.

Not many of the general public are aware of these specialists, who have to deal with anything from a heart attack to a hair pin swallowing.

That’s the introduction of two main characters in today’s story. Now on to the third key person:

Mr. Syam (name changed) is from Bangalore, working in a software firm. He woke up today with stress from his office deadline and the ‘acidity’ from last night’s stale food.

He was 31 year old and had a gastric problem previously.

He drank ‘eno’ and got up to get to the office.

His ‘gas’ became unbearable by afternoon. He thought he should have an injection for the ‘gas’. He went straight to the emergency room of Ramdev hospital.

Dr. Nagesh was stunned at the diagnosis he himself made: Mr. Syam is suffering from a massive heart attack. He quickly gave the initial medicines and asked Mr. Syam to rush to Pulse Heart.

Mr. Syam was confused, but complied. His friends accompanied him to Pulse. He was immediately attended by Dr. Rajesh in the emergency room.

Dr. Rajesh called the cardiac team and was telling Syam’s friends regarding how dangerous the #heartattack can be.

Then, all the hell broke loose.

Syam had a sudden cardiac arrest.

When a patient has a cardiac arrest in a hospital, the scene resembles a major battle. If the patient is young, it an all out war.

Dr. Rajesh prevailed after three shocks, CPR and a few medications. He was assisted by the ER team.

What we did after that was difficult. We had to perform a difficult #angioplasty, but the result was excellent.

But the real heroes are the emergency physicians like Dr. Rajesh and Dr. Nagesh. They act quickly or lives will be lost.

I salute all the #ER doctors around the world.

He was Top level Black belt martial artist, International rated chess player along with active presence on all the social issues!
