UNISON general secretary @cmcanea appeared on @BBCNewsAt10 commenting on the impending industrial action by ambulance staff tomorrow.
it's time for government ministers to act.

Yes, absolutely, it's time to talk about NHS pay.
We've been asking the government to talk to us about pay for a long time - before we balloted our members for strike action, during the ballot, when we announced our strike dates and now.

Members across the country are sending a clear message today, by standing up for themselves, fair pay and the NHS. Take a look at members in action, as momentum continues to grow and carry!

In solidarity with striking @Ldn_Ambulance staff earlier today general secretary @cmcanea out on the picket line.
If @SteveBarclay had made the case for a proper NHS wage boost to the chancellor and hosted genuine pay talks with unions there would be no strikes.

Extreme pressures are now a daily reality for the NHS, and people’s lives are at risk every single day.
This is an important read for anyone who wants to understand just how bad things are:

At 1200 today London Ambulance UNISON members walked out on strike for 12 hours. Crews will respond to life threatening calls from the picket line. It is not us putting patients lives at risk but the government who have consciously underfunded the NHS for years and continue to.
Labour will train:
✅7,500 more doctors a year
✅10,000 more nurses and midwives every year
✅Double the number of district nurses a year
✅5,000 more health visitors
Paid for by abolishing non-doms.
Patients need treatment more than the wealthiest need a tax break.
@FactsReason@TimesRadio@cmcanea and yet it saved the nation by providing free care at the point of need for everyone in the country during the pandemic - and you know who provided the care? NHS employees/union members
@MarkVipond@TimesRadio@cmcanea staggering the Gov won't negotiate, if they did there would be no strike - our union is hardly militant, last NHS strike was 8 years ago, members have put up with a terrible situation and real terms pay cuts for too long
@DaveBingham9@TimesRadio@cmcanea unreasonable to ask for more than a pay cut? after years of pay cuts and knowing that the NHS is being run into the ground by the Goverment?
"I genuinely think the Government are incapable of providing a safe, reliable NHS."
General Secretary of Unison Christina McAnea (@cmcanea) tells #TimesRadio the Government needs to "stop digging themselves into a hole".
I fully support NHS strikes however if you think it’s bad there, you want to see what social care faces
It’s not a competition but we have:
•Less staff
•More vacancies
•Worse working conditions for many
•Lower pay & benefits
•More 0hr contracts
Government need to fix both!
