Today, @CareBestInit (CBI) joined the 𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐨 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐬, #UNFPANigeria, #ActionAid, #UNWomenNigeria, #CARENigeria, #DanishRefugeeCouncil, #FHI360, #CATAI, #CASFOD, #Elela-Care, #GISCOR and other humanitarian partners to officially kick-start the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence in Maiduguri, in collaboration with the Borno State Government.

This year’s global theme — “𝑼𝑵𝒊𝑻𝑬! 𝑬𝒏𝒅 𝑫𝒊𝒈𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝑽𝒊𝒐𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝑨𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕 𝑨𝒍𝒍 𝑾𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑮𝒊𝒓𝒍𝒔” echoes a powerful call to action. And today, #CBI proudly stood with global and local advocates to amplify that call, especially for women and girls living in conflict-affected communities across Borno State.

Through strong media engagement, visibility support, and documentation, our team ensured that the voice of this campaign reaches the places where awareness inspires change. For us, advocacy is not just participation, it is responsibility. Silence has never been a solution. Visibility creates awareness, and awareness drives transformation.

In a region where conflict continues to heighten vulnerabilities, this campaign represents more than an annual global movement. In Borno State, it is a lifeline, a reminder, and a unified call for strengthened protection systems, empowered communities, and collaborative action.

@CareBestInit (CBI) was honored to host the June 2026 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 (PM TWG) Monthly Coordination Meeting at its conference hall.

The meeting convened protection monitoring experts and representatives from key humanitarian organizations, including @DRC_ngo, @premiereurgence, @giscorng, @unhcrnigeria, @CPWEI_NGO, @movement_rescue, @StreetChildng, and other protection actors working to strengthen protection outcomes across affected communities in Northeast Nigeria.

Participants engaged in robust technical discussions on emerging protection trends, critical incidents, and evolving risks affecting vulnerable populations. The session provided an opportunity to review field observations, share lessons learned, identify response gaps, and explore evidence-based approaches to improving protection monitoring and response mechanisms.

As a humanitarian organization committed to promoting the rights, dignity, and well-being of vulnerable individuals and communities, CBI recognizes that effective protection programming is strengthened through collaboration, coordination, and shared learning.

We appreciate the contributions of all participating partners and their continued commitment to advancing protection outcomes for those most at risk.

Menstruation should never be a barrier to dignity, education, or opportunity.

To commemorate 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝘆𝗴𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, @CareBestInit (CBI), in collaboration with the Benue State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare and Elela Care, organized a menstrual hygiene awareness and sensitization session at the International Market IDP Camp.

The session brought together more than 𝟳𝟱 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 and boys, creating an open platform to discuss menstrual health, hygiene, gender sensitivity, and the importance of supporting girls during menstruation. Sanitary pads and bathing soaps were also distributed to vulnerable adolescent girls to help them manage their periods safely and with dignity.

But the impact did not end with the distribution of supplies.

To ensure lasting support, #CBI established 𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘅𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 (𝗦𝗥𝗛) 𝗣𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽𝘀 within the camp. Led by trained 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝘆𝗴𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, these groups will provide safe spaces where adolescent girls can learn, share experiences, access peer support, and receive continuous guidance on menstrual health and wellbeing.

When girls are informed, supported, and empowered, they are better equipped to stay healthy, remain in school, and pursue their aspirations with confidence.

For many girls, menstruation begins with fear, confusion, silence, and shame — not because it is wrong, but because too many still grow up without the right information, support, or access to proper menstrual hygiene materials.

Fatima’s story reflects the reality faced by thousands of girls who experience their first period without guidance, education, or safe menstrual hygiene practices. What should be understood as a natural biological process too often becomes a source of stigma, isolation, and health complications.

The children engaged in drawing, singing, play-based learning, and interactive sessions, including educational videos on numbers and alphabet learning — creating a fun, safe, and impactful learning experience.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 𝐀𝐆𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓 𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐄𝐑𝐀 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐔𝐄𝐒

In the ongoing effort to mitigate the spread of the cholera outbreak in Borno State, the WASH Team of Care Best Initiative continues to stand on the frontline — moving from house to house, street to street, and community to community to protect vulnerable households and save lives.

Together with other frontline responders including @mecomhedi, @casfod_nigeria and @FutureResilien1, our teams are intensifying hygiene promotion and community sensitization efforts across affected areas.

So far, over 3,000 individuals have been reached through motorized awareness campaigns, while 103 persons benefited from house-to-house hygiene sensitization sessions in Limanti Ward, MMC LGA. In addition, 20 hygiene kits and Aqua tabs were distributed to support safe water practices and improve hygiene behaviors within vulnerable households.

Despite these efforts, the demand for water purification tablets and hygiene support remains critically high, especially among women and children in hotspot communities.

Together, we can strengthen community resilience, promote safe hygiene practices, and help stop the spread of cholera.

@CareBestInit (CBI) successfully concluded the project:
“𝑬𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒚 𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑵𝒖𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑨𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝑽𝒖𝒍𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒔-𝑨𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝑷𝒐𝒑𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑫𝒊𝒌𝒘𝒂, 𝑱𝒆𝒓��, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑴𝑴𝑪 𝑳𝑮𝑨𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑩𝒐𝒓𝒏𝒐 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒆,” funded by NHF (@OCHANigeria) in collaboration with @UNICPF.

The project close-out meeting brought together government representatives, sector stakeholders, humanitarian partners, community leaders, and CBI programme teams to reflect on the impact, achievements, lessons learned, and sustainability of the intervention.

Across Dikwa, Jere, and MMC LGAs, the intervention strengthened access to essential primary healthcare and nutrition services for vulnerable women, children, and crisis-affected populations. Communities benefited from antenatal and postnatal care services, outpatient consultations, nutrition support, community health awareness, and strengthened referral systems aimed at improving both health and nutrition outcomes.

Stakeholders at the close-out meeting commended Care Best Initiative for its commitment, coordination, and community-centered approach throughout the implementation period.

The Nutrition Sector Coordinator particularly appreciated the quality of the intervention and acknowledged CBI’s contributions toward improving nutrition and health service delivery within vulnerable communities.

Further affirming the project’s impact, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗸𝘄𝗮 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗕𝗜’𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗞𝗼𝗶𝗯𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. The commendation highlighted improvements in maternal and newborn care, outpatient service delivery, and community health awareness, while also recommending the continuation of CBI’s services within the community.

This close-out is not simply the end of a project.
It reflects lives reached, systems strengthened, partnerships built, and hope restored across vulnerable communities in Borno State.
