30 killed! “Numerous religious leaders and believers have become victims of Russia’s aggressive tactics, with 30 Ukrainian clergymen killed and 26 held captive by Russian forces in the past two years.” - International Religious Freedom or Belief Alliance https://t.co/XJFZOBUwI2
🧵 Today I want to write a quick thread about the state of the war.
Right now it feels a lot like 2016.
For those that were not involved with the war then, back in 2016 the situation was very similar. The Donbass War froze into what seemed to be a stalemate. Neither Ukraine nor russia made any significant territorial advances. The war began to fade from public interest and the western governments of the time lead by Obama (and later Trump) and Merkel began to put pressure on Ukraine to negotiate and give up territory.
Like today, russia poured millions of dollars into disinformation and lies to sway the west to their side. Comment sections on Facebook, YouTube and other platforms were littered with russian propaganda. In fact, many of the lies we are still fighting today have their origins in the original Donbass War.
For many of you, it may feel overwhelming and disheartening. Some may feel like giving up. Some may feel like defeat is inevitable - I assure you, its not.
Things are different than 2016. What is different? Our knowledge. Knowledge is power.
We now have hindsight into what will happen if we push Ukraine to negotiation. We know that negotiation with russia will not end the war. Like in 2016, russia will continue to break treaties, ceasefires, and agreements. russia will continue to lie. russia will continue to invade peaceful nations and kill thousands of innocent people. The Baltics, Moldova and Georgia will be next.
Back in 2016, there wasn't that certainty, many still had doubts. Many thought negotiation could work. Today, we know that negotiation is not an option for russia. We have certainty. To ensure peace - we MUST arm Ukraine. With this certainty we can put pressure on our governments to make the right decision.
We know that the "russian supporters" are not genuine. The vast majority are either troll bots, rage farming sell outs who do click bait statements for attention and of course many are compromised and paid off. This truth is more powerful than you think.
Unlike 2016, we have the ability to expose this truth for what it is. In 2016 we did not have groups like NAFO. We have the ability to fight back. So remember who you are fighting - these are not real. These are products of russia's investment into propaganda. Lets remind russia how poor of an investment this truly is.
How did we get to this point now? Many in 2016 gave up. They got tired. They got complacent. The lost sight of what we were fighting for. This time giving up is not an option. Remember who and what we are fighting. Our enemies are watching us - the Communist Chinese government, North Korea, Iran, Hamas, russia. Do not give them an inch.
Slava Ukraini! God bless America! God Save the King! Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité! Bóg, Honor, Ojczyzn! Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit! Forza Italia! ძალა ერთობაშია! Elagu Eesti! Laisvė, vienybė, gerovė!
All our fights are one. Stay united against evil! Do not be disheartened and stay the course. Only if you give up with they truly win.
How many times has NATO invaded USSR/Russia? 0
How many NATO countries have USSR/Russia invaded? 0
NATO helps to prevent war between Russia and Europe, not start wars.
@ChiefScientist@var_tec Your tweet is perfect illustration of the problem. The time when everybody tried to help russians to reform is long passed. Stupid memes are reminder to the rest of us and motivation to those russians who has some self-reflection ability left to admit and own their mistakes
@ChiefScientist@var_tec Let’s forget about Navalny for a sec and look at the polemics of his followers. They’re not on Ukrainian side, against the war? Yes. But they are rooting for ruzzia as it is without its decolonization.
They going to be mocked and laughed at until they abandon imperial attitude.
The American corporations #Mars, #PepsiCo and #Mondelez increased their sales in russia to a record
All of them managed to profit from the exit of more conscious competitors from the market of the aggressor country.

A famous philosopher Francis Fukuyama @FukuyamaFrancis joined us in Stanford. Mr. Fukuyama expressed gratitude to Azov @azov_media Sergeant Arseniy Fedosyuk for his service and heroism during Mariupol campaign and uttered support to Ukraine on our sure way to victory.
14 June.
It’s a date seared into our memories. The start of Moscow’s mass deportations in Baltic countries.
Today flags fly are raised, candles & black ribbons line railway platforms, victim names are read. Here’s Tallinn’s Freedom Square.
🧵 on what the world needs to know…
The next few weeks will shape the future not just of Ukraine, but of the whole security order in Europe. The point of decision has arrived https://t.co/6f5154rTY7
Videos verified by The New York Times showed multiple Russian strikes targeting an evacuation point in the flood-stricken city of Kherson. The area was being used to coordinate aid efforts for hundreds stranded by the destruction of the Kakhovka dam. https://t.co/GEOgKWOFXJ
I looked a bit into the construction of the Nova Kakhovka dam in the early 1950s... turns out the dam was specifically designed to withstand direct hits (!) by US Air Force strategic bombing.
Ukraine doesn't have anything remotely capable to blow up this massive concrete

0/10 The Nova Kakhovka Dam in Ukraine, controlled by Russia, has been destroyed. This brings humanitarian, ecological, and economic disaster to Ukrainians. Here are some guidelines for writing about this catastrophe.
The most recent satellite imagery captured by Planet at 11:21 AM local time shows the flooding of both populated areas and islands in the dam area.
The imagery indicates a visible drop in water levels on the reservoir side.
These SkySat images capture water spilling over the Nova Kakhovka dam in southern Ukraine. The dam cuts through Ukraine’s Dnipro River, holding back a huge reservoir of water. The dam’s failure poses a humanitarian and ecological catastrophe.

Making a statement on twitter is so much easier than writing a full press release.
But environmentalists are too busy to condemn biggest ecocide of the decade.
💩 The ranks of international propagandists of the Russian Federation are replenished - congratulations to the France 24 TV channel!
🤯The camera crew of this channel shot a story about the Russians' preparation for the "hostile" counteroffensive of Ukraine, repeating 🇷🇺 thesis.
The lack of bluster from Moscow over Finland's ascension into #NATO is further proof that Russia's war in #Ukraine is not, and never has been, about the alliance's enlargement.
