As we mark World Humanitarian Day, ๐ซ๐ท reaffirms its commitment to Kenyan and Somali populations affected by conflict, natural disasters, and climate change.
In times of crisis, women and girls are often disproportionately exposed to risks of gender-based violence (GBV), as well as challenges related to health and food security.
Since 2025, France ๐ซ๐ท has supported a project implemented by CARE to prevent and respond to GBV in cross-border communities in ๐ฐ๐ช Garissa County and ๐ธ๐ด Jubaland.
The project reached 40,250 people through GBV prevention campaigns, distributed 500 dignity kits to women and girls at risk, trained 80 police and security officers on GBV law and psychological support, and supported 150 vulnerable women to establish 10 Village Savings and Loan Associations.

CARE Kenya showed up at Kenya's first-ever national health summit, bringing government, health workers, innovators, and partners from across the country together under one roof at KICC
As Kenya's health system leans harder into digital tools and AI to reach people faster and more efficiently, CARE Kenya's own strategy has been moving in step; data and digital innovation are increasingly built into how we design and deliver programming on the ground.
And as delegates discussed strengthening workforce capacity and quality of care across counties, we could point to something tangible: through the CASCADE project we were able to support the establishment of the first-ever staff lactation station at the Nakuru County Teaching and Referral Hospital's, a small but meaningful contribution to how the health workforce is cared for while they care for others.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to chat with our team!

CARE Kenya joined @galdo76458 , @NemaKenya , @DRSKenya , Dadaab/Hagadera Municipality, and community members at the long-awaited ESIA public participation meeting at the GALDO Waste Handling Site in Ifo Camp.
It was great to hear the Municipality, DRS, and even PAKPRO step up with real support, and to have community leaders like Madam Rukia Ali Rage stand behind GALDO's work.
Through the C2C program, we're proud to support GALDO CBO as they drive real change: more waste collected, more green jobs for the community, and a cleaner environment for everyone.
Together, we're turning waste into opportunity and building a greener, more resilient Dadaab.

Breastfeeding support must extend to the workplace.
Gloriaโs experience shows what is possible when mothers have supportive colleagues, appropriate facilities and workplace systems that enable them to continue breastfeeding with dignity.
Through the CASCADE project, CARE Kenya, in partnership with the Department of Health Services Nakuru County and hospital leadership, supported the establishment of a dedicated lactation room at Nakuru County Referral and Teaching Hospital for breastfeeding clients and staff.
CARE Kenya calls on institutions to go beyond encouraging breastfeeding and create workplaces where mothers can succeed.

Breastfeeding saves lives. It is one of the smartest investments we can make in maternal and child health and development.
It gives infants essential nutrition, stronger immunity, and supports healthy brain development. But its impact does not stop there, its benefits extend to families, communities and entire nations.
When we protect, promote, and support breastfeeding, we reduce malnutrition, improve maternal wellbeing, and give every child a healthier start in life.
This #worldbreastfeedingweek, let's strengthen the systems, policies, workplaces, healthcare, that make breastfeeding possible for every mother.

Breastfeeding succeeds when families, communities, and health and food systems come together to support lactating mothers.
#CASCADE strengthens systems that help breastfeeding thrive by:
๐นSupporting policies and health services that protect and promote breastfeeding
๐น Empowering families and communities to stand by breastfeeding mothers
๐น Encouraging employers to create safe, dignified, breastfeeding-friendly workplaces
๐น Scaling proven interventions and practical solutions that work
Because breastfeeding is not a motherโs responsibility alone, it is a shared investment in healthier families, stronger communities, and more resilient food systems.

The Ministry of Health on saturday launched World Breastfeeding Week 2026 at Kigumo Sub-County Hospital in Murangโa County under the theme, โBreastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life; Strengthen What Works.โ
Speaking on behalf of the Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Dr. Norbert Abuya said Kenya has made significant progress in improving infant nutrition, with 60% of infants under six months exclusively breastfed, exceeding the World Health Assembly target of 50%.
He said the Government remains committed to improving maternal, infant and young child nutrition through strong policy leadership, support to counties and the deployment of more than 107,800 Community Health Promoters to strengthen services at the community level.
Dr. Abuya noted that while progress has been made, only 60% of newborns are breastfed within the first hour of birth, despite 89% of deliveries being attended by skilled health personnel. He said addressing these gaps will require stronger breastfeeding support and improved quality of newborn care.
He called on county governments, healthcare workers, employers, development partners, communities and families to work together to protect, promote and support breastfeeding, ensuring every child gets the healthiest possible start in life.
.@CAREinKenya This #WorldBreastfeedingWeek, we call for greater investment in the systems that help mothers succeed from quality health services and skilled breastfeeding support.
Collectively, we must continue to strengthen breastfeeding protection, promotion, and support by strengthening policy and guidelines implementation, and health systems across networks of healthcare workers, family members, workplaces, and communities that provide continuous care and guidance for mothers and babies during the first 1,000 days.
