Across Turkana County, repeated drought cycles have disrupted livelihoods and food production, leaving many households unable to consistently provide enough food for themselves and their children.
Supported by the Kenya Humanitarian Fund (KHF), World Vision Kenya is implementing the Cash Assistance for Drought-Affected Families project, targeting 8,950 households across Turkana North, Turkana Central, Turkana East and Turkana South.
In this first phase, each of the most vulnerable households in Turkana County will receive KSh 7,000 for three different cycles within the six-month project period, giving families the flexibility to buy food and meet their most urgent needs while protecting the well-being of their children.

Strong partnerships are how we reach the women and girls who need us most.
We paid a courtesy call to @unwomenkenya to explore how we can work together to advance the well-being of women, girls and communities across Kenya.
Our conversation centred on shared priorities: gender equality, protection and community resilience. We also made space to learn from each other's work and experience, which is often where the most useful ideas come from.
We are excited about what stronger collaboration can unlock. By aligning @WorldVisionKE's grassroots reach with @unwomenkenya's national priorities, we can expand opportunities for women and girls and move closer to a Kenya where no woman or child is left behind.
GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES NATIONAL GBV REPORTING WHATSAPP PLATFORM DURING THE SECOND BI-ANNUAL NATIONAL GENDER SECTOR WORKING GROUP.
The government has today launched a groundbreaking intervention to strengthen reporting, protection and response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases in the country.
The National GBV Reporting WhatsApp platform +𝟮𝟱𝟰𝟳𝟮𝟰𝟴𝟴𝟰𝟰𝟰𝟰 provides a confidential tool for users to access psychological, legal and counseling support as well as critical referral services for survivors of SGBV, including Technology Facilitated Gender Based Violence.
Ministry of Gender, Culture and Children Services Cabinet Secretary @hannawcheptumo said the platform will enhance quick and accessible support to survivors ensuring timely and effective response and prevention initiatives.
"This tool leverages widespread digital connectivity to provide immediate, automated, and confidential psychological support, legal counseling, and direct referral mechanisms for survivors of online and physical violence", said the CS.
Also unveiled during the Bi-Annual event are the Guidelines for Gender Mainstreaming into Climate Action. The framework seeks to integrate gender perspectives into climate change responses across all sectors, addressing the disproportionate impact on women and vulnerable communities.
The event brought together intergovernmental gender sector representatives including development partners and civil society organizations.
Together with PS. @CarrenAgengo and @WorldVisionKE we led a high-level visit to Koromangucha, Kuria East Constituency Migori County.
where we reaffirmed our commitment to protecting children, empowering women and ending harmful practices such as FGM and child marriage.
Together with partners, community leaders, youth groups and stakeholders, we witnessed the progress being made through community-led interventions in Kuria East and Mabera.
I commend the County Government of Migori, World Vision Kenya, UNICEF, the Anti-FGM Board, faith-based organizations and grassroots community groups for their tireless efforts in championing the rights and wellbeing of women and children. Their dedication continues to inspire hope and transformation within our communities.
I was especially encouraged by the active involvement of young people through the Youth Anti-FGM Network, as well as the collaboration between communities in Kenya and Tanzania to address cross-border FGM. Sustainable change can only be achieved when communities themselves become the drivers of transformation.
The Government remains committed to strengthening child protection systems, enforcing the law, promoting education and supporting community-based solutions that uphold the dignity and future of every child.
You can’t end every crisis. But you can end someone’s.
Drought took the life Lokolita’s family knew in north-west, #Kenya. Cash assistance is now helping her feed her seven children and begin again.
This is why humanitarian aid matters. One life at a time.
This morning, I chaired a high-level multi-agency meeting on the protection of children in Kenya, bringing together key government agencies ; Kenya National Human Rights Commision , Council of Governors-Kenya National Police Service, Directorate of Criminal Investigations - DCI , Child welfare Society of Kenya, National Council for Children Services , Street Children Rehabilitation Trust fund.
Also present was PS. Carren Ageng'o . The meeting centered on strengthening our National response to cases involving missing, abducted, neglected and trafficked children.
The Government is fully seized of this matter and is taking firm, coordinated and deliberate action to strengthen prevention, response, rescue, recovery and accountability mechanisms across the country. Protecting children remains a top national priority and a shared responsibility across all levels of Government.
During the meeting, we agreed on key interventions aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of child protection systems, including:
• Operationalization of the National Child Protection Command Centre to coordinate rapid response and case escalation nationwide.
• Strengthening collaboration between Children Services, the National Police Service, DCI, counties, and community protection structures.
• Enhancing intelligence gathering, tracing, rescue, and recovery efforts for missing and trafficked children.
• Improving reporting, referral, and case management systems for faster intervention.
• Expanding psychosocial support, rehabilitation and reintegration services for affected children.
•Strengthening accountability measures to ensure perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.
The Government remains committed to ensuring that every child in Kenya is protected, every reported case receives prompt action and all institutions charged with child protection effectively deliver on their mandate.
We will continue to work closely with communities, parents, civil society, faith leaders, development partners, and the media to strengthen awareness, vigilance and collective responsibility in safeguarding our children.

As per KDHS2022, at least 9.7% of girls and women (15-49 yrs) in urban areas have undergone FGM. Social acceptance and ethnic identity are the main drivers of the practice. In partnership with @Zinduka_eV, we're engaging FGM survivors in Eastleigh to end urban FGM

KEY ACTION POINTS FROM THE HIGH LEVEL CENTRAL REGION SECURITY AND CHILD PROTECTION MEETING ON RISING CASES OF SGBV, CHILD ABDUCTION AND MURDER
1. I have directed that a 90-day Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) be immediately undertaken to intensify interventions against the rising cases of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in the Central Region.
2. I further directed that all relevant Government agencies work towards declaring the Central Region SGBV-free within the next 11 months through sustained prevention, enforcement, protection and community response measures.
3. Established a multi-agency team at the regional level, to be cascaded to county and sub-county levels, bringing together security agencies, Children Services, local administration and relevant stakeholders to strengthen coordination and response against SGBV and crimes against children.
We’ve signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Finn Church Aid @FCA_Kenya to strengthen how we serve children and communities facing poverty and conflict.

In Lower Yatta, Kitui County:
🔹25,500+ people.
🔹 9,504 of them are children.
🔹Only 14% of households have water within their compounds.
🔹 53% of the community depends on seasonal, unprotected water from River Tiva and River Athi.
🔹In Masimba and Kithiani, there is no reliable safe water source at all.

As Africa continues to advance in digital transformation and artificial intelligence, the protection of children within online spaces remains a critical policy and governance priority.
Attended the Africa Forward Summit First Ladies’ High-Level side event hosted by Her Excellency the First Lady of Kenya @MamaRachelRuto focused on strengthening child protection in an AI-driven digital era.
The engagement highlighted the urgent need for safe digital spaces for children, strengthened child-sensitive budgeting, strategic advocacy, and responsive policy frameworks to safeguard children’s rights and well-being across Africa.
We joined H.E First Lady of Kenya @MamaRachelRuto at @StateHouseKenya today for a high-level #AfricaForwardSummit side event to tackle a timely question: How do we keep kids safe in an AI-driven world?
The best answers came from the children:
📢 "We want to explore the digital world without looking over our shoulders." - Grace*, 14
📢 " Teach us how to stay safe online, and include us when you make the rules." - Brian*, 15
@WorldVisionKE, we believe child protection doesn't stop at the school gate or the front door; it extends to every screen, every platform, every digital space our children inhabit.
We are proud to stand with every effort that ensures children are protected online and empowered to shape the very future of technology.
Today at State House, Nairobi, I had the honour of hosting a High-Level Side Event during the Africa Forward Summit focused on Building Safer Digital Spaces for Children in an AI-Driven World.
As technology continues to shape the way children learn, communicate, and understand the world around them, we must ensure that innovation never outpaces protection. The same digital space that opens doors to opportunity can also expose children to harm if we do not act with urgency and responsibility.
