Stronger Voices = Stronger Climate Action! 🌍
Sustainable climate action requires accountability.
Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action goes beyond restoring land and improving livelihoods. It is also about ensuring that communities have a voice in the decisions that shape their future.
In Uganda, World Vision’s Citizen Voice and Action approach is equipping communities with the tools to identify challenges, engage leaders and advocate for better services. As communities organise, speak up and work with local systems, practical solutions begin to emerge.
This is what social accountability looks like in action! Strengthening systems so that development, which is inclusive of climate action, is responsive, inclusive and sustainable.

Menstrual Hygiene Day: Myths versus Reality
Myth: Periods should be hidden.
Reality: Periods are normal, and silence helps stigma grow.
Myth: Menstrual health is a “girls’ issue.”
Reality: It is a community issue, because dignity and education are everyone’s responsibility.
Myth: Access is only about pads.
Reality: It is also about toilets, water, privacy, information and support.
Let’s choose better conversations, better facilities, and better support so girls can learn and live confidently every day.

Today is the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula.
Obstetric fistula is one of the most devastating childbirth injuries, yet it is preventable and treatable when women and girls can access timely, quality maternal health care.
This day is a reminder that health is a right and no woman or girl should endure avoidable suffering because services are out of reach.
Ending fistula means strengthening the essentials: skilled birth attendance, access to emergency obstetric care, and full support for survivors, including dignity, reintegration, and hope.
We stand with women and girls everywhere and we recommit to a future where childbirth is safe, respectful and supported for all. We stand for dignity, access and a future where safe childbirth is not determined by geography or income.

Today, let’s talk about livelihoods, nutrition and resilience. The three realities we keep seeing across communities.
Shocks are happening closer together and recovery time is shrinking. Families are adapting in creative ways but the cost can be heavy.
When a household is under strain, children feel it first through food, learning, safety and wellbeing.
Two things that help resilience become real;
✅ A way to protect what a family has; savings, assets and enough food.
✅ A way to rebuild what a family loses; skills, services and opportunities that last beyond one season.
One question for you today, If a shock hit your community this month, what would help families bounce back faster?

What are we learning about resilience?
1. Resilience is built before a crisis, not after it. The strongest recovery starts with what is already in place.
2. Community matters. When people save, plant, and problem-solve together, families can withstand more than they could alone.
3. Livelihoods are not only about income. They are about dignity, stability, and choices that protect children’s wellbeing.
4. The best solutions are joined up, support that helps families meet today’s needs while building a stronger tomorrow.
This is why livelihoods and resilience matter. Because hope is not a slogan. It is a household that can recover, rebuild and keep going.

A child should not have to measure life in miles to water or days without food. Somalia’s drought is becoming a quiet emergency for children. Funding has been cut by 2/3 and the response plan is only 13% funded.
By mid 2026, 1.85M children could face acute malnutrition. We cannot let this be forgotten.

A pen can feel small.
But in the hands of a child who wants to learn, it can feel like a door opening.
Through Education in Emergencies support, learners received essential scholastic materials so children, especially girls, can attend class more regularly and focus on learning.
This is the value of education. It restores routine in unstable places. It builds confidence. It strengthens life skills children carry beyond the classroom, like perseverance, communication, and the belief that tomorrow can be different.

Families are where childhood is first protected, first nurtured and first shaped.
This International Day of Families, is a timely reminder that when households lack access to essentials, children feel the impact first and longest.
Inequalities in income, services, education and healthcare can limit children’s life chances, which is why family-oriented policies and community support systems matter.
At World Vision, we work alongside families and communities across East Africa to strengthen the conditions that help children thrive, through integrated support that protects children, supports caregivers, and strengthens resilience.
Today, we celebrate families in all their forms, and we reaffirm our commitment to a region where every child grows up safe, cared for, and free to dream.

This year marks the most severe drought Somalia has ever experienced with nearly 500,000 children at a risk of severe acute malnutrition. Livelihoods have collapsed and livestock dying from hunger. Over 6.5 million people across Somalia are facing hunger as drought deepens.
Every child deserves a chance not just to survive, but to thrive. World Vision is working alongside communities in Somalia to reach the most vulnerable children and families with life-saving support but the need far outweighs available resources. This moment calls for urgency, compassion, and collective action.

Speaking at the summit, Her Excellency Mrs. Rachel Ruto, EGH, First Lady of the Republic of Kenya, emphasised the critical need to harness innovation for inclusive growth while ensuring children are protected in the digital space. She underscored that as technology continues to evolve, safeguarding children online must remain a shared priority for governments, partners and communities...
“As technology continues to shape the way children learn, communicate, and understand the world around them, we must ensure that innovation never outpaces protection. The same digital space that opens doors to opportunity can also expose children to harm if we do not act with urgency and responsibility.”
— Her Excellency Mrs. Rachel Ruto, EGH
First Lady of the Republic of Kenya
At the Africa Forward Summit side event in Nairobi, World Vision reaffirmed a clear message that children must be safe, protected and heard in today’s fast-growing digital world. As more children come online than ever before, the risks they face; from cyberbullying to exploitation and harmful AI-driven content, action has to be taken.
Digital spaces have now become part of children’s daily lives, which means safety must be considered. It must be built into technology, policy and systems from the start, with the dignity and wellbeing of every child at the centre.
World Vision continues to partner with communities, governments and children themselves to strengthen protection systems, build digital literacy and amplify young voices. Together, we can shape a digital future where every child is not only connected but empowered, protected and able to thrive.

This week, global attention turned to Nairobi, Kenya, as the Africa Forward Summit convened leaders shaping the continent’s future and World Vision contributed to a critical conversation on safeguarding children in an AI‑driven world.
World Vision co-convened a high‑level event on Building Safer Digital Spaces for Children in Africa, in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady of Kenya Rachael Ruto and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The dialogue brought together 5 Africa First Ladies (Kenya, Madagascar, Guinea, Tanzania and Eswatini), former President of Liberia, H.E Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, leaders in the technology sector, children, senior African leaders, policymakers, technology sector stakeholders, and children to examine how innovation, governance, and partnership must evolve together.
As Africa’s digital transformation accelerates, the summit underscored a strategic imperative: technology must advance in ways that intentionally protect and empower children. Digital spaces can unlock unprecedented opportunity, but only if child‑centred safeguards, responsible design, and inclusive policies keep pace.
Speaking at the event Pauline Okumu National Director World Vision Rwanda used this platform to advocate for a coordinated approach that:
🔹 Strengthen child‑centred digital and AI governance
🔹 Promote responsible technology design
🔹 Invest in digital literacy for families and communities
🔹 Meaningfully engage children and young people as co‑creators and peer educators
🔹 Strengthen enforcement and sustained investment in online child safety
At World Vision, we remain committed to working alongside governments, partners, the private sector, and children themselves to ensure digital spaces are safe, inclusive, and empowering for every child.
