@JonathanShedler The most astounding conclusion cuipers comes to in his paper is this: if one course of tx for depression, e.g. CBT, does not work, then try another. How dumb is that?
@eclecticherbal@NickTaber@jill_d35 Taber is right "The truly relevant variables in psychology are emergent, first person, developmental, relational." Can they be reliably measured? Yes. The quality of the therapeutic relationship -- the alliance --best predicts treatment outcome. Tons of studies confirm this.
@JamesMartinSJ Why do Catholic Cardinals like Egan party with likes of Robert Kraft and other supporters of genocide. Why does my Church never --never--mention Palestine? Why is the Pope on vacation? Isn't there hallocaust happening on his watch?
@JDaviesPhD The Great Psychotherapy Debate, Wampold, 2016. Cuts through the bullshit to show what works in psychotherapy. His work is based on evidence--not ideology, special pleading, financial gain, or celebrity.
@ProfRobHoward BTW-every half-way sensible mental health intervention is superior to waiting-list, so any RCT that show X works better than WL is worthless.
@JDaviesPhD Buber made a distinction between acceptance or acknowledgement and confirmation. A crucial move in psychotherapy involves the therapist confirming the patient, which is not just acceptance but involves affirmation as well. Confirmation strengthem the patients resolve to change.
@BadreNicolas "thereapeutic effects" important. Analaysis of Star D show top psychiatrists 2x more effective than bottom cohort tho follow same protocol. Placebo (white coat, pill, context) or meaning response important with weak tx like antidepressants.
@DavidPuder Bruce Wampold's work starting in the 90's and culminating his book "The Great Psychotherapy Debate," has arguably had the biggest impact on contemporary psychotherapy that I know of. He is also a clinician. See his videos with McW and others.
@mickcooper77 Not sure you're fair to Heidegger. Hannah Arendt, his former lover, visited him repeatedly after WWII. Moreover, H was in therapy with Binswanger for a severe depression after WWII. H wasn't a celebrity hound or moral self-aggrandizer.
