Caribbean Archive is in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. We are reading “The African Lookbook” by Catherine McKinley. This book is providing us a historical language on fashion and ways of being in West Africa particularly in Côte d’Ivoire.

We are engaging with artists that come from different artistic practices in Abidjan who have created safe spaces for different forms of identity, femininity, gender and autonomy to blossom. This is our first research project.

I thought about what would this look like as an exhibition. I thought on artists whom I adored, whose works made me think about a traveling body, an imagined one, and a memory…
