Thinking about Paternalism and doctor-patient communication today. Are there any cases where non being sincere or not disclosing a diagnosis or prognosis to a competent patient can be morally justified?
Last day at @RaAMconf. Don't miss the roundtable discussion on "#ReframeCovid at RaAM 2020Virtual" chaired by @inesolza (13:45 UTC+2). So happy to continue this virtual discussion with all of you 🤩 #2020INNmetaphor#CaringDiscourse

Thought provoking reflections @CaringDiscourse not sure though that because we cannot really see shared decision making, we cannot really talk about it. Surely it is a heavily loaded concept but let's keep talking. We might manage to unpack it eventually&meet halfway #sdm
The more sensitive we become to context in clinical encounters, the less likely we are to generalise on shared decision making, the more likely we are to approach #sdm in more comprehensive ways. @CaringDiscourse
There is an (un)ethical aspect inherent in the communicative act & interactional process of shared decision making in clinical communication which is largely influenced by the expertise- & power differentials in clinical encounters #sdm@CaringDiscourse .
Refreshing reflection by @PalGulbrandsen on the importance of sustaining doctors' curiosity about what they hear from & observe in patients in order for the former to approach #sdm in ways that are likely to enhance patient participation and foster autonomy @CaringDiscourse
