@NewYorker Truly saddened by this story. It's a shame a fibroid treatment decision aid wasn't shared with this journalist. She missed a few treatment options, including uterine fibroid embolization. Shame on gyns who limit info and steer patients to treatments of their choice and skillset.

I was in training when ACA passed. Before, we routinely saw pts with uterine fibroids so large it caused renal failure - required dialysis, surgery; we were used to managing it. Afterward and since, practically never. Access to care does matter.
