Josie Huang, one of the nicest and most talented people in L.A journalism, lost her home in the Eaton Fire.
She, her husband Kevin (also a lovely and talented journo) and their two children will be picking up the pieces. Please consider helping them out: https://t.co/TbS0eOAibp
As you’re watching the results roll in, is there something you’re curious about? What do understand and not understand about what comes next. Call us with your questions: 1-800-618-8545
On the latest episode of Explain It to Me we answer a question from Carolina. She wants to know what to do about retirement….and if the world as we know it will even exist by the time Zoomers turn 65. @bryanrwalsh and @Your_RichBFF answer
Sending so much 🧡to the folks affected. You are so talented, and your work has helped so many (including me). Please, please, please reach out if I can be helpful.
@LAist announced layoffs this week & began notifying employees who will be let go today.
We aren’t sure yet how many union members will be affected. But we are already losing 11 unit members and 10 more members of our staff to voluntary buy-outs.
We’ll have more to say soon.
We desperately need excellent journalists in Los Angeles. We desperately need trained professionals to hold people in power/officials accountable in the city and county...now more than ever. We also need journalists to have livable salaries, health benefits + a work/life balance.
This is a link to a non-profit that offers financial aid to journalists in Southern California. https://t.co/9oLKAIinOr. Consider applying or donating. This is a very dark day for journalism. Thanks to @LarryMantle for making me aware of it!
@jessicapauline Jessica, I'm so sorry. As a reader, this is such a loss. So much of the voice of LAist is YOU! And also knowing what a great and dependable colleague you have been to me and so many others makes this cut even deeper. I'll keep reading whatever you write, wherever you go next! 🧡
@MikeRoe Mike! I’m sorry to hear the news. You’re such a great journalist & person. Your stories are among my favorites to read & listen to (even from afar) & your care for colleagues is something I’ve appreciated & tried to pay forward. Whoever gets to work w/ you next is so, so lucky 🧡
This breaks my heart. The KPCC + LAist staff made Los Angeles and public radio feel like home. If there’s anything I can do for any of you affected, please please please reach out. 🧡
Today @LAist announced the plan to eliminate 21 roles, including at least 7 unit members, amid a company-wide “restructuring,” that will reduce the newsroom by 10%.
Really sad about the layoffs today at Spotify. A lot of these people have been at Gimlet since the very beginning. They’ve helped us with edits over the years. They were friends of ours. They’re the most talented people in audio, and we were lucky to work with them.
Sending so much love to the Gimlet and Parcast families today 💚
Last year, so many people here reached out with kind words and connections. If I can return (or pay forward) that kindness now, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
@issapizzazo Hi, I’m one of the producers working on this episode on tipping. Thank you for sharing your thoughts here. If you can, please call 202-854-8802 and leave us a voicemail. We may use it in the episode!
