Hundreds of teachers in Peel could lose their jobs after the Ford government placed the board under supervision claiming it would protect teacher jobs.

Students and classrooms will pay the price.

Ontario’s schools cannot keep doing more with less.

The Ford government has decided to lay off hundreds of permanent teachers in the Peel District School Board — a deeply hypocritical move after Minister of Education Paul Calandra placed the board under supervision, claiming it was necessary to protect teacher jobs.

“Our schools cannot continue to do more with less,” said Nicola Allison, president of the teacher bargaining unit of OSSTF/FEESO District 19.

“These cuts will further reduce essential supports for students in special education, English-language learners, and those who rely on international student services.”
