With only a handful of places left to see Variegated Horsetail (Equisetum variegatum) in Yorkshire, I did not expect to find this rare beastie at @NosterfieldLNR where its naturally moved in and thriving!!

So so exciting to see all the amazing work at this special place 😍🌱

@joshual951 @NosterfieldLNR @BSBIbotany @jim_horsfall @whiterosegreen We are lucky that the small clumps are not clonal. We've got some stock plants under protection that produce good seed crops. The henges are fenced to keep the sheep from eating everything before it seeds.

Pricking out some seedlings of Dyer's Greenweed @NosterfieldLNR habitat creation nursery today. These are grown from seed collected from 2 small clumps on the Central Henge at Thornborough. Impressive roots on such small seedlings. @joshual951 @BSBIbotany

This pond at High Batts NR near Ripon always produces interesting insects, key feature being deep fringe of Pointed Spear-moss. Of note today were diving beetles Agabus affinis (inset) & Hydroporus neglectus (Nationally Scarce) & tiny scavenger water beetle Chaetarthria simillima

Last week @NosterfieldLNR reprofiling created a new pond on Flasks Fen. Today volunteers planted it up with Purple Moor Grass, Hemp Agrimony, Greater Bird's-foot Trefoil, Carnation & Star Sedges, Sneezewort, Devil's-bit Scabious, Globeflower & Marsh Thistle.
