BC Transit's strike in Squamish, Whistler, and Pemberton ended after 136 days in June 2022. It is the longest transit strike ever in BC history.

BC Transit's strike in the Fraser Valley came close, ending after 124 days in July 2023.

There have been a number of transit strikes across Canada since the pandemic.

In November 2019, a shutdown of buses and SeaBus was averted after midnight when a deal was reached. Days later, in December 2019, #TransLink narrowly averted a #SkyTrain shutdown after 4 am with another deal.

As for the last major transit shutdown in Metro Vancouver, it was in 2001, when bus drivers and SeaBus workers were off the job for 3 months. TransLink provided 3 days of free transit for customer appreciation after the strike ended with the provincial government intervening with back-to-work legislation.

Of course, Metro Vancouver relies on transit much more now than 20+ years ago, so it's highly unlikely any shutdown if it does proceed would last anywhere near as long. #bcpoli #vanpoli

@TranBC @CityofDeltaBC To whom it may concern, there are many occasions when the 4:30 or 4:44pm bus 255 does not show up on the route to west Vancouver. We have to pick up our son from school and it is a game of chance as to whether that bus will show up.
