🫀 NATIONAL CARDIAC PHYSIOLOGIST DAY 21st May 2025
Join us in celebrating the vital work of Cardiac Physiologists on the birthday of Willem Einthoven, the pioneer behind the first ECG. His invention in 1895 transformed cardiovascular diagnostics and earned him a Nobel Prize.
@ItsnotrightUK Echocardiographer would be a healthcare scientist, not allied health professional. This post is an 18 month programme during which the applicant would not progress to beyond the bottom of the pay grade of band 6
The building blocks to quality improvement that form the roots of most projects.
While the tools and techniques on top of them may vary depending on the context, these foundational elements are essential to successful and sustainable improvement:
The number of experienced staff within the NHS is falling. 28% of staff have five years experience or less, and the figures for nurses and midwives with 10 years or more experience have dropped dramatically.
The increase in inexperienced staff results in a ‘rookie factor’ which reduces productivity and slows down efforts to reduce NHS waiting lists.
How do we resolve this? By addressing the elephant in the hospital room: retention of experienced staff.
Government workforce planning purely focuses on supply and training more new people to fill the leaky workforce bucket. What they need to do is plug the holes in the bucket and retain staff.

For the NHS 10 year plan consultation we proposed solutions to current issues, highlighting the need for progression pathways for experienced echocardiographers. We're following up with MPs, policy advisors, NHSE and the devolved nations. We’re encouraged by conversations to date

Absolutely I would agree with this.
Not unique to echo of course, but if you don’t know what the test can tell you, the limitations or can’t interpret the images or results … then it may well be harmful!

RIP
Say their names
I can not imagine John Hunts pain. I send every condolence for his senseless loss.
I know the killers name.
I had to scroll quite a while to see the names of the women murdered rather than their relationship to men.

Did you know:
The height of the colour box does not drop the frame rate, it’s the WIDTH that affects the frame rate.
I always teach people to lengthen colour box to look at the whole of the pulmonary artery not just the valve.
You never know when you may pick up a PDA!
