“The world in which we live is collapsing and may be nearing the breaking point”, Francis emphasised. Yet we go on and on in activities contributing considerably to climate change.

At the end of the day, it is no wonder that development and developers run roughshod over our residential communities. They are aware that the authorities are pre-programmed in their favour.

Undoubtedly climate change was a contributor to the power distribution network’s failure. Climate change is however not the only culprit. Gross incompetence & lack of long-term planning are the major contributors to the current state of affairs.

Rather than have a separate authority dealing with climate change it would be more appropriate to beef up the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) and ensure that it is run appropriately.

#Malta doesn't need more new positions for insiders in new authorities. The country needs competent politicians who know how to let the competent authorities work in a professional manner.
The PL Govt's corruption, negligence & carelessness in the energy sector, have led to this crisis. It's on the PL to admit its lack of good governance & embark on a long-term transformation of the energy sector, making it cleaner, more reliable & fit for the present & future.
#Malta should move towards more electricity generated from the roofs of buildings & industrial areas where feasible. All energy generated should be fed in 1 distribution system. While the PL abandoned the grid, the PN wants to convert the electricity grid into a private monopoly.
Instead of apologising, Abela & Dalli are pretending the mess Malta's in isn't their doing. #Malta doesn't need more cheques for fat cats or new posts in new authorities. Abela & Dalli are coming up with pseudo-solutions & trying to hide the fact that the disaster is their fault.
Despite all the platitudes during the MCESD meeting this morning it's clear that the PL Govt let the electricity distribution system decay to the point of failure & pushed forward a disastrous economic policy of growth at all costs.
@SandraGauci2
We’ve made proposals in favour of a sustainable & socially just energy policy. A policy that gives peace of mind on energy supply in a creative, sustainable & socially just way. We’re not happy with crumbs. We’re fed up of amateurish politics.
#Malta deserves better!
In all this there is responsibility to be shouldered by Miriam Dalli. Her office has been more focused on buttressing MEP PL candidate Steve Ellul through publicly funded media events than in ensuring that the real problems we face are being addressed.

Għax ngħiduha kif inhi: wara dawk il-kummentarji kollha mimlija paroli fil-vojt, bix-xieraq li jikkummenta ftit dwar dan id-diżastru li żviluppa quddiem għajnejna.
Diżastru tal-inkompetenza ta’ dan il-Gvern.

We have a government that indulges in vanity projects like a Film Festival that cost millions and wastes money on green walls that end up being removed. Then we have people who have to go to the soup kitchen to eat.
@SandraGauci2@ralphcassar
It's shameful that #Malta renewable energy share is at a measly 12.2% by end 2021 according to official Jan 2023 Eurostat data. Malta should stop granting licenses for oil exploration & focus on inc. the country’s technical skills & capacity for locally generated renewables.
PLPN want roads to be widened & want to fill #malta with cars. We only hear about parking issues & bragging about newly surfaced roads. It’s a fact that TransportMalta & InfrastructureMalta ended up practically acting as car marketing agents, instead of reducing car dependency.
