Techno-feudal Intelligarchy (noun): A socioeconomic order in which ownership and control of artificial superintelligence form the principal basis of wealth, political influence and class stratification.
@scottdavidcraig Profitability may be part of it, but I doubt frontier research will actually pause. At most, public releases will slow, while internal and state backed work continues. AI is now infrastructure, leverage, military advantage, economic and national power: the last Manhattan Project.
Change my view: Anthropic's ai pause is more about profitability than safety.
The longer a company can deploy a model before it’s obsoleted the more chance they have of recouping their investment
If they keep leapfrogging each other’s model releases no one can recoup costs
Watching a recent #TeslaOptimus promotional video, I was reminded of an early 2000s The Outer Limits episode “Family Values.”
In it, a father brings home Gideon, a household robot that promises to help with his increasingly strained family. Gideon is helpful, patient, extraordinarily capable. It performs any task given better than the person who previously performed it.
Gradually, the protagonist discovers that he has not only delegated the household chores, in small increments, he has also delegated his place within the family.
The episode ends with a narrator voice over delivering an ominous warning in the typical Outer Limits / Twilight Zone style: “Before allowing a machine to take over a part of your life, make sure that you know the true price you will be paying.”
Just finished playing with @GoogleAI ‘s new experimental flash Ai model. Its ability to infer both temporally and spatially consistent world models is beyond impressive. Anyone who is not preparing for the accelerating improvements in Ai capabilities has their head in the sand.
Most of the time, it would behave normally, but if certain conditions are met, let’s say, a specific kind of query, environment, network scale, system flag, it could activate entirely different behavior.
Think of it like a relevancy score. Makes you wonder… if someone wanted to implant a sleeper agent into an AI system, this would be a great way to do it.

Instead of a single model that activates all neural pathways simultaneously on inference, a gating mechanism routes a query so that the model selectively activates specific node clusters or “experts” within the model’s latent space based on the closest matching ‘expert’.

Perhaps in five years, I’ll be shouting as I’m prodded onto a cattle cart by Tesla Peace Enforcers, “She tried to warn us about @elonmusk , but we didn’t listen. Why did we not listen!”
There’s a pattern here: first the Nazi salute & now addressing an election rally of Germany’s far right party. When does this become too much even for Trump, or are there no limits now? Let’s remember that Nazi Germany was responsible for #genocide: https://t.co/KhSI7d9tst
Are we electric sheep constructed from data collected about real people that once lived, existing in a reconstructed approximation simulating the past? If so, for what purpose is this simulation being run?
CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Dramatic video shows a person using a digger to rip an ATM machine from a gas station wall in Ireland on Sunday. Investigators say it appears the digging machine was stolen from a site near the gas station: https://t.co/KTsOMg8KuV
