Mandabi is a protest against colonialism, capitalism and greed. Sembène made a conscious decision of making the film in Wolof, not only as an effort to reach 80% of his people who were largely illiterate, but to allow for subtle gestures that could only be made possible in Wolof.

We have lost a giant in the history of our nation with the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
It is heartbreaking that in her final moments she was, as are many others, preoccupied with what would happen after her passing.
