In the last three years or so, at least five Nigerian athletes have been convicted and are doing terms in US federal prisons.
The latest being Godson Brume who has been jailed for illegal possession of a firearm, and faces deportation after that.
Raymond Ekevwo, Toluwani Adebakin, Aniekeme Alphonsus, Mercy Abire are some of Nigerian athletes currently in jail.
Going to America to study on a scholarship is a privilege many Nigerian athletes take for granted.
What many people go through to get - if life is fair to you and you get it, I don't think you need an extra motivation to make the best use of it.
🚨 FORMER LSU SPRINTER GODSON OGHENEBRUME SENTENCED TO 27 MONTHS IN U.S. PRISON 🚨
Nigerian sprinter and former LSU standout Godson Brume 🇳🇬 has been sentenced to 27 months in federal prison, followed by possible deportation or removal from the United States.
The 23-year-old was convicted in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for possessing a firearm while being admitted to the U.S. under a non-immigrant F-1 student visa, stemming from an incident on February 7, 2025.
Oghenebrume, the 2024 SEC 100m champion and owner of a 9.90s Personal Best, was arrested after allegedly discharging a Glock 43X 9mm pistol multiple times during a domestic dispute at his apartment complex.
Based on the complaint that preceded the indictment, on the night of February 7, 2025, Oghenebrume was in his apartment when an ex-girlfriend, who is also the mother of his infant child, arrived at the apartment with the baby. Oghenebrume, who had been in the apartment with another young woman, went outside, and an argument ensued between him and the mother of his child. During this argument, and while the baby was present, Oghenebrume discharged the firearm.
Oghenebrume went back into his apartment. Sometime thereafter, Oghenebrume’s ex-girlfriend opened his apartment door and observed Oghenebrume and the other young woman in the living room, and she and Oghenebrume began to argue. That argument spilled out of the apartment, and Oghenebrume discharged the firearm more times as the mother of his child fled. Multiple bullet strikes were observed in the walls of the apartment complex.

🚨 MASSIVE NCAA ELIGIBILITY RESTRUCTURING APPROVED 🚨
The NCAA Division I Cabinet has unanimously approved a major shift to an age-based eligibility model, fundamentally changing how long athletes can compete in college sports:
● 5 Years of Competition: Division I athletes will now be allowed up to five years of competition, replacing the long-standing model of four seasons within five years. Traditional redshirts and eligibility waivers will be eliminated.
● The Age Clock: An athlete's eligibility clock will begin when they first enroll in college or at the start of the academic year following their 19th birthday, whichever comes first. The move is designed to limit athletes competing deep into their mid-20s through additional waivers and eligibility extensions.
● The Catch: The rule is expected to apply to athletes with eligibility remaining after the 2025–26 academic year. Athletes who completed their fourth season of competition this spring are not expected to benefit from the change.
The decision is expected to face immediate legal challenges, with multiple lawsuits reportedly being prepared on behalf of athletes seeking an additional year of eligibility.
Olympic medallist & World Champion, Jenny Simpson 🇺🇸 reportedly collapsed and suffered cardiac arrest during a track event, losing her pulse on the field before first responders successfully revived her and rushed her to a local hospital.
The incident occurred during a pop-up mile event in Raleigh.
Wishing Jenny a full and speedy recovery.🙏
Yes, Lilian Kasait had a similar case in 2022. She took Letrozole to boast fertility.
She submitted all hospital records, and she was banned for 10 months.
The AIU has banned Gudaf Tsegay (Ethiopia) for 4 months from 1 June 2026 for Presence/Use of Prohibited Substance (Metabolite of Letrozole). DQ results from 5 December 2025.

All the way from Onitsha to being crowned a Champion in the United States.
In 2017, when Prosper Chinecherem Nnamdi started throwing the Javelin at Federal Government College, Nise in Anambra state, he didn't have the right implement to practice with, and was still throwing 45m while in secondary school.
In fact, it was Mary Onyali who arranged for him to get the right tools after he surprised even the seniors in 2018 at the Commonwealth Games trials in Abuja with a mark of 57.57m. That day, the person he would eventually surpass his Nigerian Record, Pius Bazighe, was one of the field officials.
Seeing that they are both from the same state (Anambra), Mary arranged for him to get new Javelin equipment, with the goal being for him to represent Anambra. He was still too young to displace established seniors like Samuel Kure and Kenechukwu Edeeofor, but they were taking note of him. This guy went from 45m in 2017, to 74.71m in 2019, winning the African U18 title in Abidjan.
Since then, he has gone on to break Bazighe's National Record, improving massively from that 81.06m and has since set new NRs, holding the current record at 84.68m.
When he started, he was hanging around the training group of Salwa Eid Naser, who had earlier left Onitsha for Bahrain, and that group produced some other talented athletes.
Prosper forged his own course, and has cemented his name as the best Nigerian Javelin athlete in history.
Sometimes, you need people who would believe in your talent and give you that push, maybe just through buying of equipment, just like Onyali did for him.
🗣️ “Don’t worry, Mom. One day, you will live like the rich people in the village.”
🇰🇪 Agnes Ngetich made that promise as a hungry kid with nothing on the table. She is the second of eight children. She left school after her father died. She started selling charcoal and alcohol to help her mom and siblings survive.
Her mom had been a runner too but never got the support to see her own talent through. The dream was passed along to Agnes.
At a regional race, Agnes collapsed before the finish line since she was too hungry to see. A teacher named Ruth Bundotich carried her home, tracked down Agnes’ mother and convinced her to let her pursue a running career.
🎧 We’re all in awe of what Agnes does when she run since the performances and results speak for themselves. But the latest episode of The CITIUS MAG Podcast takes you back to where it all started.

Interesting interview of Maxime Chaumeton (🇿🇦 NR holder for 5k and 10k): he is planning an allegiance change for 🇫🇷 and hopes for a 58:30 debut in the half marathon (remember that the 🇫🇷 NR is 59:13 by Julien Wanders and the best time this year is 59:27 by Etienne Daguinos).
