@aliciaandrz I am going on the job market soon(ish) and I always appreciate having more information rather than less. Just my two cents, I see both sides :)
First day of MMLA 2025 done✅ I have seen so many interesting presentations and have met so many amazing people so far. Can’t wait to present tomorrow on curanderismo and chicana environmentalisms in So Far from God :)
@aliciaandrz Before class this morning I was feeling angry, sad, and frustrated but interacting with my students made me feel so much better! Keep fighting the good fight.
I know that many have already commented on this post but as a copyeditor, I have seen paper submissions that have these issues from all experience levels. Assigning this as a “grad student” problem doesn’t acknowledge the actual issues underlying publishing and peer review.
As a reviewer, it is obvious when something is written by a brand new grad student and very obvious when it is their first paper submission ever. Really heavy on the jargon and misuse of GRE words. The writing is floral without fragrance. (1/2)

@KobysKing Dont be afraid to take a step back to reground yourself. As far as diss/apps/teaching goes, it’s better to take a break and come back to your work when you’re in a better mental space than to try and force something out. Slow and steady wins the race!
