@NWSFlagstaff Pretty impressive storm from our vantage point in Oak Creek. Estimated wind gusts to 35 to 40 mph, brief downpours, and plenty of lightning. #azwx
Diamond dust forms when there is a nearly saturated air mass near the ground with temperatures in the dendritic growth zone. (snow/ice crystals form between -12 to -18°C). This model temperature sounding shows this zone was just off the ground around midday (yellow line).
This unusual cold weather meteorological phenomenon (diamond dust in the 1st video) looks quite similar to an irritating biological phenomenon we Spokanites experience in the fall (the wooly ash aphid emergence in the 2nd video). #wawx
I just want to say thank you to @NWSSpokane for being the best coworkers and friends I could ever ask for. I’m going to truly miss all of you folks, but promise I’ll stay in touch.
Traveled south of Spokane to capture some aurora magic but perhaps my favorite shot of the night was just a hop, skip, and a jump away. #aurora#spaceweather
Here's another view of the fascinating atmospheric optics this afternoon with labeled components. Looks like there may have been a faint infralateral arc to the lower left of the sun. #wawx#AtmosphericOptics
Some awesome atmospheric optics over Spokane this PM. A full 22° Halo, Parahelic Circle, Parhelia (sun dogs) Upper Tangent Arc, and even hints of a Lower Tangent Arc. The first image is unedited, and the second is edited to show coloration. #wawx#idwx#atmosphericoptics
@KHQLeslie It was quite a wild day. Single digit humidities combined with bone dry fuels and winds up to 30 mph can lead to some very dramatic fire behavior.
A look at the #GrayFire from Four Lakes Road just north of I-90. Not only was it ominously dark but more impressive the column was rotating as well. #wawx
These beer pong glasses were empty before the deluge began. Not sure how much rain fell but it was appreciable. Sadly it cleared the beer patio as well. @NoLiBrewhouse ☺ #wawx#notbeer
@NWSPendleton I thought you might like to see what last night's massive thunderstorm just north of LaGrande, OR looked like from a nearby webcam. It was impressive on the Spokane radar even though it was over 140 miles away. #orwx
