At the AI Journalism Fellowship session with Muhammed Akinyemi (@theprincelyx) last Saturday, our fellows walked away with practical knowledge on effectively using AI in journalism.

Here are their feedbacks:

@Oluomosdm, Web Officer and Reporter, Nigeria: "The session exceeded my expectations. I learned the importance of precise and ethical prompting, integrating human expertise, and infusing creativity into AI prompts. Avoiding overloaded prompts is crucial."

@carrey_el, Journalist, Cameroon: "The session was enlightening. Specificity in prompts is key to avoiding unnecessary information. The importance of fact-checking AI-generated content was emphasized, ensuring accuracy in our work."

@TomisinAmokeoja, Journalist, Forbes Africa, Nigeria: "It was a practical session that highlighted how the quality and specificity of prompts determine outcomes. Learning to save writing styles for future use was particularly valuable. Muhammed's guidance on AI usage was spot on."

@ngevao_sia, News Reporter, Sierra Leone: "The practical tips on crafting compelling prompts and providing scenarios were the most valuable. Clarity and specificity in prompt writing ensure accurate responses from AI. The ability of AI to identify and adapt my writing style was a game-changer."

This session was a testament to the power of AI in transforming journalism. Our fellows are now better equipped to leverage AI for precise and impactful storytelling. Thank you, @theprincelyx, for an engaging and insightful session!

Hello! Listen to this insightful feedback from our AI Journalism Fellow, Amamboh Carrey Pride. She discusses making #AI more practical & relevant to the African context, emphasizing the importance of telling real African stories.

@carrey_el stressed the need for Africans to engage with AI rather than resist it. "We should grow with AI and incorporate it," she says, noting that the training has significantly pushed towards integrating AI into everyday activities.

She believes that fighting AI hinders progress, but embracing and growing with it can lead to remarkable achievements. "I hope that in years to come, AI can be more practical about our African context," she asserts. Her optimism and forward-thinking approach inspire us all to work towards a future where AI and African stories seamlessly merge.
