@publichealthni Hey @publichealthni - how about also promoting the locally commissioned community pharmacy emergency hormonal contraption and birth control service? #pharmacyfirst
So true Killian, my accountant has just informed me today that my business is now subsidising the NHS. Someone, somewhere has got their sums really wrong.
Wish this wasn’t true but it is - when it is your only form of livelihood you will do everything you can to keep the doors open - unfortunately here in NI we are even worse off as the worst parts of “contracts” in the uk have been cherry picked an imposed upon us
Serious Shortage Protocols for penicillin products are very welcome. Used several times today. Problem is most GPs are now avoiding writing rx for Pen V as they know it is in short supply. 😖
This day 2⃣ years ago the first COVID-19 vaccination was administered in Northern Ireland.
The jab is still the best protection against serious illness.
First, second and booster COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available to anyone who needs them.

Headlines on @bbcnewsline tonight was Strep A infection. Ran out of Penicillin syrup today due to increased demand and now can’t source below reimbursement. Why is this unfair pricing situation still not resolved? @broganjoe69@cathyharrison00
We think it’s absurd & unfair that pharmacies are often paid less by the NHS for prescription medicines than the cost at which they can buy them. 81% of the public agrees! (NPA-commissioned survey September 2022) #dispensingataloss @PSNCNews @NHSEngland
@bbcnewsline tonight headline was Strep A infection in children. Both amoxicillin and penicillin for children very difficult to source. It is already more than the reimbursement price.

***Important change of opening hours***
Due to ongoing workforce pressures we will be closing every night at 5.30pm.
This is beyond our control.
Please try to collect any prescriptions early in the day and try to avoid busy times.
Thank you for your understanding.
A stark warning from @compharmacyni that the supply of certain drugs is becoming critical. They say that shortages and skyrocketing prices of many medicines could result in pharmacies being unable to supply important prescription medicines to patients. @BBCNewsNI
Unfortunately this news piece reflects exactly what is happening. Too much of our time is now spent trying to source medicines. https://t.co/2KTvUvINTO
Thanks so much to Catriona and Rosaliene from our partners @meaapni in the @IMPACTAgewell project. They have been helping us out on Friday afternoons with our queue system over the last few weeks. The help is so timely and welcome after an intense few weeks. #partnershipworking
NEW: detailed thread on Europe’s winter wave and the contrast vs UK
What’s happening? Why the difference? Can boosters help?
First, the wave itself: cases, hospitalisations & deaths surging in Europe, several western countries shooting past UK 📈

Historic Day. First IP prescription I’ve written in community pharmacy. It’s only been 15 years since I qualified as an Independent prescriber. Better late than never. #uti#pharmacyfirst @HSCBoard @cathyharrison00
