I have family in Pakistan, we heard the same Scripture readings at Mass
I have a twin sister in Pennsylvania, we heard the same Scripture readings in Mass
When my husband and I were long distance, we heard the same Scripture readings in Mass
The Mass is the one constant that unites us all every Sunday
We cannot be together physically, but we can spiritually
That's why I love the Catholic faith
@theistinthought I’ve seen this be a huge problem. It’s not enough to have the babies, you must raise them, teach them, and guide them. I have seen it at my church, to the point where I did not even want my four children to play with the other children who were so poorly behaved.
I've been buying cheap paperback Shakespeare copies and doing the plays like a table read with my wife and three oldest kids in the evening. We swap characters scene to scene.
It's one of the richest things I've done in years.
@realfemsapien I think I could do anything for a week with a great attitude if I knew it was going to end after the week. Good for you it’s going great. It’s going great for me, too. But my husband working 12-14 hour days for years is not at all comparable to your one week sample.
Going to bed late is associated with a higher IQ.
Researchers at the London School of Economics analyzed thousands of individuals to map the relationship between circadian rhythms and cognitive ability.
People with higher IQs are significantly more likely to be night owls.
The data breaks it down by sleep schedules:
• Very Dull (IQ < 75): Sleep by 11:41 PM
• Normal (IQ 90–110): Sleep by 12:10 AM
• Very Bright (IQ > 125): Sleep by 1:44 AM (and sleep in past 11:00 AM on weekends)
Why? Evolutionary psychology.
For 99% of human history, night was for sleeping. Artificial light didn't exist. Staying up late chasing complex thoughts, building projects, or solving problems is an "evolutionarily novel preference."
People with higher general intelligence are more equipped to override ancestral instincts, break away from the traditional sun-up-sun-down routine, and adapt to a modern, 24/7 world.
The early bird might get the worm.
But the night owl gets the higher IQ score.
C. S. Lewis, letter dated March 16, 1955:
“I think I can understand that feeling about a housewife’s work being like that of Sisyphus (who was the stone rolling gentleman). But it is surely, in reality, the most important work in the world. What do ships, railways, mines, cars, government etc exist for except that people may be fed, warmed, and safe in their own homes? As Dr Johnson said, ‘To be happy at home is the end of all human endeavour’. (1st to be happy to prepare for being happy in our own real home hereafter: 2nd in the meantime to be happy in our houses.) We wage war in order to have peace, we work in order to have leisure, we produce food in order to eat it. So your job is the one for which all others exist…”
I think being a stay-at-home mom is bad for women. There’s just so little to do. So much time free. Idle hands.
Exception: full-time homeschooling with 2-3+ kids.
I don’t want to "download the app" to pay for parking. I don’t want to "create an account" to see a menu. I don’t want to "provide feedback" on a 30-second interaction. I just want to exist in the physical world without a digital leash.
“And every four years when the World Cup comes around, we will say that we’d dominate if we had a stronger youth program.”
“And will we develop a stronger youth program?”
“We will not.”
