The euphemism Special Needs, after many years of service, has filed for retirement. Nondisabled people receive countless supports, so why should supports for disabled people get treated as something extra? #DisabilityPride https://t.co/uMEJMPvXUx
Its that time of year when academics are writing their course policies, which means its time to highlight how the higher ed accommodation process is OFTEN ITSELF a barrier to accessible education. 1/17
It is crucial to listen and learn about these landscapes, enter these spaces with a desire to understand, and engage effectively. This approach helps build a community based on partnership, even if it means walking alongside conflict.
When you practice accessibility & being inclusive you get better at it.
When you do it to only accommodate an individual or a situation your not building your skills, modeling for others or creating cultural systemic disability equity.

“In the end, Ottawa County residents should expect the protection of law, and when there is a hearing for the removal of the Ottawa County Health Director, they should expect that one of the basic tenets of legal protections, the burden of proof, is respected by Counsel that seeks to remove her.”

We need to stop depicting mobility aids as a sign/symbol of inability to be or do something. My mobility aids aren't a sign I'm incapable of doing a job or living a full life. They give me the opportunity to do my job, to live a full life.
Commissioner Roger Bergman, a non-OI-affiliated Republican, “The recent press release sent out by Mr Gibbs on Aug 28 is another example of telling lies or half-truths, which if told often enough, people will start to believe.” https://t.co/j3pNwDC2LG
According to the county's administrative health officer, Administrator John Gibbs asked her to show a 2024 budget that is reduced by almost 50% by the end of the day on Thursday. https://t.co/57v4O1mDMS
If you live and work in and love Ottawa County you should know what’s going on at the Board of Commissioners as well in your city governments, local public schools and libraries. Now is the time.
At today’s Budget Work session, Finance Chair Cosby proposed a 5% across the board reduction to our Fiscal Year 2024 Budget.
Following a year of increased costs for many aspects of county government, an across the board reduction of this magnitude would create severe deficiencies in the County’s ability to provide the services that residents have come to expect from their local government.
Whether expressed through reduced deputies on the road, less prosecutors and less public defenders in our courtrooms, less food inspectors, less mental health professionals, or less of the myriad other services Ottawa County offers, this proposal would have far reaching negative effects throughout the County.
Ottawa County is a vibrant, growing County, and part of what makes it such a great place to live is the dedicated County employees that work to help promote that growth through the services they offer. Cutting our budget in this manner, and at this time would be both irresponsible and counterproductive to that vibrant growth. https://t.co/Q8NnNNpzCq
